We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hailey Reinke. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hailey below.
Hailey, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
Every single day as an actor you have to be resilient. For me personally, I am still working towards being where I want to be in my career. I have accomplished a lot already which I am very thankful for, but I do have more goals I am working towards as well. I have the opportunity to continue to pursue what I love and that is exactly where I get my resilience from. Every single day I am working on something whether it’s filming an audition, submitting to a project or film, updating my resume, taking acting classes, networking with people, listening to an acting-related podcast, etc. Being that everyone’s career path is different and there is not one path to follow, it can sometimes be discouraging for people. To be successful, you have to be resilient. Every day I am resilient. There are so many people in this industry with a lot of different opinions. Multiple people might tell you “no”. But then for example, after people tell you “no,” you finally get a “yes”. To get to that “yes” is very exciting. Which then leads to more opportunities. You have to be resilient and push through which is exactly what I am doing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Hailey Reinke. I am an actress and model. I started acting and modeling about three years ago. Since then I have had over 25 bookings comprised of commercials, film, runway modeling, photoshoots, voiceover, and more. I took an acting class about four years ago. I instantly loved it. From there I was in my first film which was the Netflix film White Noise directed by Noah Baumbach. It was an incredible experience. I got to work alongside amazing actors such as Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig. It was then that I realized I wanted to pursue acting professionally as my career. Some of my film credits within these three years include Netflix films, SAG films, feature films, short films, student films, independent films, and more. I enjoy many different genres of film such as romcoms, horror, comedy, romance, syfy, drama, and more. Another film that I was a part of is the horror film The Whistler which was directed by Alex Caruso and Jeremy Perdok. I booked one of the lead roles in The Whistler. I loved working on that film. It was an amazing experience to be a part of. Additionally, some of my commercial credits include Wayfair, Cadillac, Hello Fresh, Mr. Hero, Dollar Shave Club, Tymo, SkyDio, and Osmia, as well as Televised Car Commercials, along with many others. Being an actor, I’ve also had a ton of headshot shoots, and that’s how I discovered that I also enjoy modeling and would like to make modeling a part of my career. From there, I have modeled in runway fashion shows and photoshoots. What is exciting about my work is the way it impacts people. I love watching TV shows and movies. I get so inspired and moved by them. I want to move people the way the people I look up to move me. I would say that is one of the things that is exciting about what I get to do. I get to inspire and move people which I think is truly beautiful.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey would be determination, being passionate, and being present. Starting with determination. To have a successful long-lasting career in this industry, you have to have determination. This is a very competitive industry and there is always something to work on every day. You have to work at it and be motivated. Next is being passionate. There is not one path that everyone takes in this career. Your career can and will change. You might have a not-so-great month with not a lot of bookings then the next month might be great and you might get a ton of bookings. You have to be passionate to have a long-lasting career. It is a lot of hard work and you have to think outside the box sometimes and try new things. Being that this is such a competitive industry, you have to think of ways to advance your career. There is always something you can do and sometimes you have to be adventurous. You have to go all in! Lastly, being present. So much of acting is listening. What is the other person in the scene saying to you? How does that make your character feel? Looks alone can show so much about how someone is feeling. Just being present and listening is one of the best things you can do as an actor. Just be real. For people who are early on in their career, I would say to work hard. As stated before, there is always something to work on in this industry so just keep going!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am always looking for people to collaborate with! If you are in the film industry and you are passionate about it then I would love to work with you! I love being a part of feature films, short films, skits, photoshoots, commercials, etc. There are so many positions in this industry and I think it’s wonderful when a group of exceptional people come together and make something amazing.
