We recently connected with Hails Joseph and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hails, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter syndrome isn’t real. It’s something that society tells you is real so it halts your growth.
How do I overcome it? I remind myself of these things:
Stop worrying about the other person. Put on a certain type of blinders. Accept critique. Allow growth. But be unforgivably you along the way. Don’t stop being you.
Sometimes you’ll even fight yourself from being you. You already have enough people hating out there don’t let yourself be one of them.
Oh, and trust me — You are good at what you do. If you don’t feel it, rest, research, and practice.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a creative director at HOWL.

At HOWL, we offer a range of services including full-service video production, creative partnerships, storytelling, branded content, documentary, commercial film, photography, album art, clothing/merch design, and graphics.
Our goal is to help you bring your ambitious visions to life by providing project-based or ongoing support in areas such as storyboarding, writing, research, and more.
We believe in the power of collaboration and are here to support you in solidifying your vision and articulating your story. Whether you’re looking to start a project or need ongoing creative support, we’re here to help you every step of the way.
we are powerful beyond measure. ✋🏽🤚🏽

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Be delusional.
You have to believe in yourself so much, you have to see your vision so much.
To you it will never seem delusional but that’s what everyone else will like to call people like us. Dreamers. Achievers.
They won’t see it till they see it.
We already see it, feel it, live it.
2. Wear blinders
Racehorses wear blinkers. It’s the sleeve around their eyes and face.
Many trainers believe that blinkers keep horses focused on what is in front, encouraging them to pay attention to the race rather than distractions such as crowds and other racers.
Treat social media and comparison as the other racers. Wear those blinders. Focus on YOUR race.
3. Find your team
There’s a circle out there who won’t call your ideas wack. Or call you lame for pursuing your dreams.
There are people who will feed into your work. Who will stream your music on repeat, watch your YouTube videos, go to your art shows, wear your clothes, repost everything you make.
Leave that circle who doesn’t help you grow and find your people. Your new team.
And if you’re having trouble, feel free to reach out to me and I’ll root for you.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m looking for more local based artist in Houston to connect and collaborate with.
By artist I mean: Models, actors, musicians, filmmakers, designers, 3D model-ers, photographers, writers and more.
Especially if you’re looking to grow and become more established within the greater artistic community.
Let’s get you guys working on more music videos, short films, musician merch packages, album art designs and more.
