We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Haleh Shoa. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Haleh below.
Hi Haleh, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
From my parents. They’re both so generous with their knowledge, their time and their love. Not just for their children, but also for the extended family and friends. I feel whole when I practice generosity as it’s one of my core values. It’s the reason I started my business… so that I can help families tell their stories through their memories.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am Haleh Shoa, the founder and CEO of Picturli, a photo management and design studio dedicated to helping businesses and families transform their photo chaos into a well-organized digital library. My team and I meticulously organize our clients’ extensive photo collections into a secure, easily searchable, and shareable Photo Archive. I firmly believe that our family histories and personal memories are among the most valuable treasures we can possess, and preserving and sharing them is crucial for future generations.
My passion for photo organizing has deep roots in my family’s history, which was marked by the upheaval of the Iranian Revolution in 1979. When my family moved to the U.S., they couldn’t bring most of their belongings with them, but they did manage to bring all of our cherished photo albums and memorabilia. Today, the only remaining memories from my childhood are through those family photos and the stories shared with me through the collection I have diligently preserved.
With certification as a professional photo organizer in Los Angeles and backed by 27 years of technical expertise gained as an executive creative producer in advertising for luxury brands such as Ritz Carlton, Apple, and Jaguar/Land Rover, Picturli was born out of my deep affection for people, my sharp eye for photography, and an unrelenting desire for storytelling.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Trust your gut and get out of your head as much as possible. Be very curious and do a ton of research in the area that you’d like to be an expert. Stay open to possibilities and know that there are 3 businesses: yours, theirs (whoever that is) and God’s (or the universe – whatever rocks your boat.) You can only control the first one.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’d love to be able to collaborate with any business or individual who has a family service company. Whether it’s a home organizer, money manager, estate manager, interior designer or real estate agent, who can inform their clients about the importance of organizing and archiving their family history. In the end, our photos are the gateway to our stories, so why not enjoy them and preserve them?
