We recently connected with Haley Swanson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Haley, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Growing up a military brat, I saw my mom spend every waking minute making sure she was the best she could be. Watching her work ethic over my developmental years, really impacted me and how I carry myself. My work ethic has been constructed based off of what I have seen works for others and what I know has worked for me, as well. I believe having a drill sergeant as a mom truly molded me into the person I am today. I have always prided myself in my work ethic and how dedicated I become to something I am passionate about. I always want to make sure the work I put out is the best it can be. I give everything 110% effort and I feel like it always pays off in the long run.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a licensed esthetician as well as a lash artist. I believe I have such a beautiful career built for myself. I get the pleasure of making women feel confident and beautiful in their skin. Whether it be a mother of 3 kids who never gets a minute to herself, or a highschool girl going to her prom, I get to see so many beautiful women see themselves in their true beauty. Lash extensions is applying tint hairs to your natural eyelashes, and it is a very tedious, meticulous job to do. The client typically gets to relax and even fall asleep, and wake up with a fresh set of lashes. The pure joy and excitement that exudes from these women after opening their eyes is what makes it all worth it. This may be the only time she is able to get away from her hectic life and just relax, and I love that these women choose me to spend that time with. It truly is an honor being able to provide this service to my community and empower the women around me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, I believe one thing that has helped me is to keep it pushing. No matter what happens, you always have to keep your head up and keep pushing forward. You can never go back to the past and change anything, so just accepting things as they are and moving on is so important. Dwelling on things that can’t be changed is so draining, focus your energy in the positive. Another thing I have learned along the way is that the opinions of others truly do not matter. At the end of the day, all that matters is that you did the best you could. Sticking true to yourself and believing in who you are goes a long way. If I could go back early into journey the and tell myself one thing it would be that confidence is a mindset. Believing in yourself and your abilities is key to success. If you believe you are capable, there is no limit to what you can achieve.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Within the last few years I have built a successful business from the ground up, but I truly couldn’t have done it on my own. I am the sole proprietor of my business, but have had some help along the way. My boyfriend, Ethan Smolinski, has been by my side every step of the way. I started doing lashes in the spare bedroom of my house, having random people come into my home and invade my personal space. This was never an issue between us and how our household functions, but an avenue for something much greater. He has always encouraged me to keep improving and making decisions that are most beneficial to me and my business. After a year of lashing out of my house and establishing myself, I was finally able to move into a business studio. Without his help I wouldn’t have been able to renovate the space to make it my own. I put myself through school and he was there everyday to make sure I had what I needed to succeed and excel. I couldn’t be more grateful to have such a supportive partner in my life. This journey hasn’t been an easy one, but it has definitely been more than worth it. He has also built himself a business and multiple avenues of revenue, all while helping me manage my own. We both have struggled and come up together and that is the most beautiful part of our journey together thus far and I hope to only continue to grow and become better people and business owners together.
