Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Han Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Han , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
To discover my purpose, I initially began with a somewhat abstract idea in mind. To bring clarity to this purpose, I embarked on a journey of goal-setting. Through the process of establishing multiple objectives and meticulously planning my path to achieving them, I gradually unearthed the precise purpose I was truly seeking.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My deeper exploration into Visual Development and Storyboarding began when I made the decision to major in animation at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Prior to this, my focus had predominantly been on painting and illustration, but I harbored a strong desire to enter the film and animation industry. This led me to immerse myself in the study of visual development and storyboarding. To expedite my learning process and leverage my existing knowledge, I extensively researched the works of accomplished artists, drawing inspiration from their creations. The pivotal aspect of my growth was consistent practice and drawing. This dedication honed my skills in crucial areas such as composition, element proportions within frames, perspective, and storytelling within artwork. Reflecting on my journey, I’ve identified self-confidence and occasional bouts of laziness as personal obstacles that impede my progress. It was essential to confront these challenges because, despite my growth, I recognize the ongoing need for further learning and improvement, and I wanted to ensure I remained dedicated to my craft.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would attribute my growth as an artist to a combination of three key factors: practice, feedback, and exposure to diverse artistic influences. Firstly, I dedicated a substantial amount of time to honing my craft through extensive drawing and painting practice. This deliberate effort was aimed at discovering my unique art style. While technical skill is undoubtedly important, I believe that one’s distinct artistic voice is even more crucial. Secondly, the invaluable feedback I received during my time in art college since now played a pivotal role in my development. Professors and peers provided constructive criticism that illuminated areas where my work could be enhanced. Their insights and guidance were instrumental in refining my skills and creative vision. Lastly, I found inspiration and fresh perspectives by immersing myself in the works of various artists. Whenever I encountered creative challenges or sought to infuse my work with something unique, I made visits to museums and studied the paintings of different artists. This exposure to diverse artistic expressions has consistently enriched my own artistic journey.
