Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hang Tran. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hang, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Since I was little, I have had a passion for cooking. When I grew up, I thought about opening a restaurant, but in my mind, I was hesitant because opening a restaurant is very tiring and hard work, so I avoided my passion for cooking.
I always look for another job instead of cooking and think they are my dreams. I sell products on amazon, learn to repair phones, make youtube content about cooking and traveling, learn photoshop,.. but all failed. Until one day I learned to invest in stocks, it was the biggest failure and made me lose everything.
When I was at the bottom of failure I knew what I had to do to survive and take care of my 2 year old baby. At that time my mind opened up and I understood that I needed to follow my passion at all costs because I needed income to survive in expensive state of California.
I spent all my small amount of money to buy ingredients to cook my specialty dish “Bun Bo Hue”, people loved it, and that motivated me to maintain and innovate the current product I am selling across the US with USDA certification.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
The production process requires many steps such as formula design, USDA certification registration papers, HACCP food safety programs, packaging design, supply chain, distributors… it costs a lot to hire people to do them, but luckily the jobs I have experienced before now support this current job, it is a blessing, otherwise I call it fate, everything has been arranged for me. Of course there will be small failures due to lack of experience, but it is not significant for me to grow more mature on my journey.
The funny thing about my journey back when I first started is that when I introduced my products to people, or USDA inspectors, they thought it was a big company with a lot of employees making their products… I did it all by myself!
I am currently working with MT.Trading, a major distributor in Houston, to bring my products to supermarkets across the country. I would like to thank my family and friends for their support and encouragement so that I can be strong in completing my work well. And especially thank the president of MT.Trading for supporting me greatly in this entrepreneurial journey.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
To achieve what I am today, discipline is very important, the ability to learn and solve problems by myself, and last but not least, doing everything with love and sincerity.
Try many jobs to know what your passion is, when you find it, focus and work with love, you will be very happy if you work with passion.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The book that influenced me the most was Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. All my current skills were learned from there, and recommend you read it.
