We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hanna Hebrank. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hanna below.
Hi Hanna, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Personally, my work ethic is a mix of influences from my upbringing and life experiences. From a very young age my family instilled in me the idea that hard work and consistency are the keys to achieving anything you want. My parents and grandparents were always dedicated to their work, whether it was a 9-5, volunteering, helping someone out, or work around the house. I saw firsthand how putting in the effort, even when it felt tough, led to progress and success and that kind of determination rubbed off on me.
Recently I’ve learned that consistency is the secret weapon for me. It’s not about burning yourself out all at once. It’s about building a rhythm and showing up, even when the motivation isn’t there. That’s something I really learned along the way, especially as I started pursuing my own goals. Whether it’s in my career or personal life, that steady, committed approach is what keeps me going because burnout is real, and I think recognizing it early on is key. For me, it’s about balance. I’m not afraid to take a step back and recharge when I need to. But in the back of my mind, I know that the best way to push through burnout is to keep my momentum going, even if it’s at a slower pace. Just moving forward, little by little, helps me keep that work ethic strong.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a lash artist, I see clients and glue eyelashes to peoples faces.
It sounds so simple and boring, but there’s so much more to it than that! I’ve seen dozens of clients in my seven years as a lash artist. I’ve built meaningful friendships, become a therapist in a way, become involved in their lives, supported them and been there through their successes and losses. I personally get the honor of making them feel their best everyday, heard and valued, and in return they are walking around with my art on their eyes. Because being a lash artist is so much more than just a job, it’s an art form. Each client has a different eye shape and face shape and has different visions so it’s my job to make sure I combine all three to enhance their features to make them look and feel their best.
Lashes are one of those things that can make someone feel like a whole new person, whether it’s waking up with beautiful lashes every day or feeling more confident for an event, it’s truly incredible for me to see the effect it has. And that effect and the feeling they give is why I got into this industry in the first place. It’s not just about the aesthetics, either; it’s about boosting someone’s confidence and giving them a little piece of luxury in their daily routine.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
When I think about what’s been most impactful in my journey as both a salon business owner and a lash artist, there are definitely a few qualities and skills that really stand out. The first one I can think of is learning advanced lash knowledge and techniques. As a lash artist, staying on top of the latest trends, techniques, and lash health is absolutely crucial. The beauty industry evolves constantly, so it’s essential to continue learning and improving my craft. Mastering the art of extensions, whether it’s volume lashes, or the latest styling trends, has allowed me to offer my clients the best results.
The second skill is having business sense and financial management. Running a salon is much more than just offering great services. From learning how to manage overhead costs to setting prices, keeping track of inventory, placing orders and handling taxes, learning and understanding the financial side of the business has been critical. Learning how to set sustainable prices while keeping things profitable, creating budgets, and knowing how to manage cash flow have been just as important as the actual lash artistry. This knowledge has definitely been my most challenging to learn.
Last but not least is client experience. Creating an unforgettable client experience is at the heart of my business. It’s not just about applying lashes; it’s about making sure clients feel comfortable, valued, and understood every time they walk through the door. Building rapport with clients and understanding their needs has been incredibly impactful. Whether it’s offering personalized consultations or just making sure they feel relaxed during their appointment, client retention is all about fostering trust and providing that exceptional service that makes them want to come back again and again.
These three areas, advanced lash knowledge, business sense, and client experience, have all played an instrumental role in my journey. Each has helped me not only provide top-tier lash services but also build a thriving, sustainable salon business that clients love.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Something that’s been a real challenge for me as both a salon owner and a lash artist is social media. Honestly, it’s been my biggest weakness. I’ve always been more focused on providing a top-tier experience for my clients in the salon itself, and I’ve neglected how crucial social media is for connecting with potential clients and building my brand online. Social media is such a powerful tool for growing a business, especially in the beauty industry, where visuals really matter. People want to see your work, your style, and your vibe before they even step through your door. But for me, it’s been a struggle to stay consistent with posting, engaging with followers, and finding the right content that truly reflects my salon’s personality and the quality of the services we offer.
I’ve started to put more energy into understanding the ins and outs of social media marketing, learning about platforms, and how to leverage them to reach new clients. I’m also trying to be more intentional with content creation, showing behind-the-scenes looks at the salon, client transformations, and educational tips on lash care. The goal is to not only showcase my work but to build a real connection with my audience, so they feel like they know me and trust what I do before booking an appointment.
I’m also investing in learning more about scheduling posts and using analytics to measure what works best. I’m really starting to see the potential of using social media to bridge the gap between the in-salon experience and what people see online. It’s definitely a work in progress, but I’m committed to making social media a strength, not a weakness. The feedback I’ve gotten from clients about how much they love seeing our posts and transformations has been really encouraging. At the end of the day, I want to create an experience that’s seamless both in-person and online. And while it’s a challenge, I’m excited to keep improving and finding new ways to connect with my clients in the digital space.
