We recently connected with Hannah Altman and have shared our conversation below.
Hannah, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My path wasn’t traditional and neither was the way I found my purpose. It was messy, creative and kind of magical in its own weird way.
I grew up in a small Southern town where pursuing a creative career wasn’t really the norm. But I always had this pull toward storytelling, especially the kind that explored the unknown. When I was 15, I got my first camera and entered a video contest for my favorite band, The Used. I made this dramatic video in a bloody bathtub and, somehow, I won. Meeting the band was a surreal moment, but more than anything, it showed me that my creative instincts were worth trusting.
Around that same time, I had my first real experience with the paranormal. My best friend and I were using an Ouija board for fun, but the session quickly turned unsettling. Lights flickered, the power went out, the board spelled “R-I-P,” and then my TV got struck by lightning. For the next week, weird things kept happening, such as paintings falling off the walls, and the energy in our house just felt off. That experience was intense, but it sparked a deep curiosity in me. I wanted to understand what I couldn’t explain.
That mix of creativity and curiosity became my compass. I studied film and TV, spent time in London where I fell in love with the stories behind old buildings, and moved to New York to start working in production. My first big break was on the show Forged in Fire, and since then, I’ve freelanced for over a decade in Los Angeles on everything from Haunted Towns and Ghost Brothers to Conjuring Kesha and Ghost Adventures. Those shows brought me back to the paranormal world that first fascinated me.
Eventually, I created The Paranormal Lounge, a space where I explore those stories more deeply and connect with people who are just as curious about the unknown. Looking back, my purpose didn’t arrive all at once… it unfolded through creative risks, strange experiences, and moments when I simply chose to follow what lit me up.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Thanks so much for this opportunity to share my story! I’m a content creator and storyteller with a deep passion for the paranormal and the unknown. Over the years, I’ve blended my background in film and TV production with my fascination for supernatural stories to create engaging, authentic content that connects with people who are curious about what lies beyond the everyday.
Professionally, I focus on producing and sharing stories that explore the mysterious and the unexplained. Whether I’m working on TV shows like Ghost Adventures, or creating content for my own platform, The Paranormal Lounge, my goal is to bring a sense of wonder and curiosity to the audience. What’s special about this work is how it combines creative storytelling with real experiences and research, inviting viewers and listeners to question and explore alongside me.
My brand, The Paranormal Lounge, is a community and a creative space where people interested in the supernatural can come together to share stories, insights and discoveries. It’s more than just content, it’s about fostering connection and curiosity around something that’s often misunderstood or dismissed.
Right now, I’m excited to be expanding The Paranormal Lounge with new episodes, live events, and collaborations that bring even more voices and perspectives into the conversation. It’s an ongoing journey and I’m excited to see where this blend of creativity and curiosity will take me next.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are curiosity, resilience, and adaptability.
Curiosity is what first sparked everything for me… the drive to explore the unknown, ask questions, and keep learning. Without that genuine interest, it’s hard to stay motivated, especially when things get tough or uncertain.
Resilience has been key because the creative and paranormal fields aren’t always straightforward or easy. There were times when opportunities felt scarce or doors closed, but sticking with it and learning from setbacks made all the difference.
Adaptability helped me grow as I moved between different cities, projects and roles. Being open to new experiences and willing to pivot allowed me to build a diverse skill set and find new ways to express my passions.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to nurture your curiosity by diving deep into what truly fascinates you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek out experiences that push you beyond your comfort zone. Build resilience by viewing challenges as learning opportunities rather than failures. And stay adaptable! Be open to change, experiment with different paths, and don’t be afraid to try new things. Over time, those qualities will help you find your unique way forward.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely! I’m always open to partnering and collaborating with people who share a passion for storytelling, creativity, and the paranormal. Whether you’re a fellow content creator, researcher, artist, or someone with fresh ideas about exploring the unknown, I’d love to connect.
I’m interested in collaborating on projects that bring new perspectives to paranormal storytelling, innovative multimedia content, live events, or community-building initiatives. If you’re someone who’s curious, creative and excited to explore these themes in unique ways, we might be a great fit.
If you’re interested in collaborating, the best way to reach me is through The Paranormal Lounge website or social media channels, where I’m most active. Feel free to send a message or introduce yourself, I’m always eager to hear from like-minded creators and visionaries!
