Meet Hannah Demuth

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Demuth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hannah, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
How did I overcome burnout?

Burnout, the space in which you want to throw your laptop clear across the room.

The moment in which the words don’t come as fast as the deadline.

You’re zapped, zoned out staring at the screen with mind blank.

Webster dictionary defines burnout as exhaustion of physical or emotional strength or motivation usually as a result of prolonged stress or frustration.
But they forget to explain the exhaustion burnout takes on your soul strength. It forgets to remind us, we are all souls having a human experience.

And my Human experience as of lately? I’ve felt an underlying overwhelm, exhaustion and frustration with my work. Everyday it seemed to bubble up to the surface, just enough to snag my attention.

Like a hangnail catching your sweater.

So how do we overcome the inevitable process of burnout while fully living in this human experience?

We witness it.
We acknowledge it.
We stop shaming ourselves for feeling the frustration and exhaustion.

“Why isn’t this working”
“Why cant I make this happen”

What if the next time you heard yourself think those thoughts, or the next time you want to throw your laptop into the trash, you stopped. For burnout is the check engine light. It’s the deepest parts of your spirit and soul needing to be witnessed.

What if you simply stopped what you are doing and gave yourself a minute to breathe.

A 60 second master reset.

Simple yes, but not always easy.

For you see, society programed us to believe we must constantly fix the problem. We must diagnosis and treat the issues causing us so much pain and frustration. When we do this, we can methodically move onto the next issue, deadline or important topic that needs our attention.

But what if thats the whole reason why we feel burnt the hell out?

We unknowingly give away our greatest gift, our attention to the next “fire” needing to be put out.

What if we breathe into the burnout. We take a slow inhale and an even slower exhale.

In for 4, out for 8.

Repeat as necessary.

Remember burnout is an inevitable part of the creation process. It’s the death to what was, to make space for what needs to come. The sooner we witness it, observe it without shaming ourselves for it, the sooner we can be liberated from it.

With truth and love, H.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Accountability, guidance and community are vital on a journey to heal ourselves from old wounds in which we operate from. The journey of healing isnt clear cut. Its windy, its one step forward and three steps back. But giving ourselves grace and faith for our future creates an opportunity to sink fully into the present without attaching ourselves to the future.

Take your journey slow, dont expect perfection and give yourself permission to get things wrong.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
The author Yung Pueblo body of work has impacted me significantly. His book Lighter shares how we can let go of the past, connect to the present and expand our future.

The topic of worst case thinking really resonated with me. Its a way we try to control outcomes out of a desire to feel safe. When in reality, we rarely control whats happening. Instead we can learn how to trust in the flow of whats happening. If we are attached to an outcome, we are creating unnecessary suffering for ourselves.
