Meet Hannah Gill

We recently connected with Hannah Gill and have shared our conversation below.

Hannah, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Overcoming impostor syndrome was a transformative journey rooted in self-belief. As a female graphic designer in the competitive landscape of California, I found myself grappling with doubts about my abilities and whether I truly belonged. Yet, in moments of reflection, I looked around and saw the incredible work being produced by my peers. Instead of allowing comparison to breed insecurity, I began to see their achievements as inspiration. I realized that the only barrier standing between me and creating something remarkable was my own hesitance. Embracing a feminist ethos, I understood that my voice deserved to be heard and my vision deserved to be seen. With each project, I pushed past the confines of self-doubt, usually surpassing my own expectations! By putting myself out there, I can continuously discover the power of my creativity.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My professional journey is rooted in a passion for creativity and innovation. Through my work, I strive to blend aesthetic beauty with strategic functionality, crafting designs that captivate. What excites me most about my craft is the ability to evoke emotions, spark conversations, and drive meaningful change through visual storytelling. Every project I undertake is infused with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. My brand stands for authenticity, empowerment, and inclusivity, reflecting my belief in the transformative power of design to shape perceptions and challenge societal norms. As I continue to evolve professionally, I am excited to explore new avenues of collaboration and expand my artistic repertoire.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities have proven to be profoundly impactful: resilience, creativity, and collaboration. In the face of challenges, resilience has been my steadfast companion, allowing me to persevere and grow stronger with each obstacle overcome. Creativity fuels my work, empowering me to envision bold solutions and push the boundaries of conventional design. Collaboration, meanwhile, has been instrumental in fostering meaningful connections and amplifying the impact of my creations. To those embarking on their own creative journey, I offer this advice: cultivate resilience by embracing setbacks as opportunities for growth, nurture your creativity by exploring new mediums and perspectives, and prioritize collaboration by fostering a supportive network of peers who share your passion and vision AND also with people who don’t share your same vision, you could learn something from them!

What would you advise – going all in on your strengths or investing on areas where you aren’t as strong to be more well-rounded?
I firmly believe in the power of going all in on our strengths rather than spreading ourselves too thin. Mastery in one’s craft is an art form in itself, one that demands dedication, focus, and unwavering commitment. Rather than diluting our efforts across multiple areas, honing our strengths allows us to unleash our full potential and deliver exceptional results. I’ve learned firsthand that by prioritizing what we excel at, we not only elevate our work but also enhance the client experience. It’s about recognizing when to lean into our expertise and when to humbly acknowledge areas where others might excel. By harnessing the talents of fellow professionals for tasks where our proficiency may be lacking, we ensure that the end product exceeds expectations and truly shines. Don’t be afraid to reach out to other local talent in your area to collaborate on your own projects!
