Meet Hannah Jackson

We recently connected with Hannah Jackson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

When I moved to Austin seven years ago, I was stepping into the unknown. Fresh out of a long-term relationship, I found myself in a new city, looking to put down roots, build a slower, intentional life, and find a new job. The transition wasn’t easy—navigating a divorce, adjusting to a new culture, and securing employment tested me in ways I never anticipated. But each challenge became a stepping stone, teaching me the true meaning of resilience.

One of the pivotal moments in my journey was deciding to keep the house I couldn’t initially afford. Turning to Airbnb was a game-changer, bringing new faces into my home and offering unexpected support. It reshaped my view of Austin, revealing glimpses of the diversity and support within the community. While I’m still finding my place here, those experiences inspired me to create Acquired Taste.

Each incense holder I craft is not just a tool for self-care but a form of expression, reflecting its owner’s unique ‘acquired taste’. Living in Austin, where personal expression is celebrated, I wanted to create pieces that make everyday rituals feel personal and aligned with one’s aesthetics. Each step, challenge, and success has taught me that resilience is a continuous journey where I’m learning to embrace change and find beauty in the process.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

At Acquired Taste, we craft nostalgic incense holders and create unique Acquired Moment bundles that transform everyday rituals into meaningful experiences. My journey from New York to Austin inspired me to embrace intentional living, and I infuse that spirit into every product. What’s most exciting is seeing how our holders and bundles help people find peace and joy in their spaces. We’re currently focusing on expanding our Acquired Moment line, offering more ways for people to create moments of mindfulness.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Three key qualities that have shaped my journey are exceptional customer service, an authentic brand rooted in personal experience, and a polished presentation. My advice is to build genuine customer connections, embrace your story in your brand, and present yourself confidently.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

My biggest challenge right now is balancing organization and workspace limitations while growing Acquired Taste. I’m strategically upgrading my workspace within a confined budget and focusing on bundling my products to offer higher price points. I’m reinvesting my business earnings back into Acquired Taste, which allows me to save for marketing and other needs while maintaining my full-time job.
