Meet the founder of The Gorls Club

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hannah Le. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hannah below.

Hannah, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Over time, I’ve learned in more ways than one that you should always do more of what you love – It’s the key to happiness, in my opinion. As a multi-hobby, million-interests person, I have always loved to try new things and have had problems finding just one or two hobbies to stick to. When I started The Gorls Club, I realized I could not only do anything and everything without committing to just one hobby, but that I could do it for and with others. My purpose is to bring this mindset to everyone, and help people realize that trying new things and meeting new people does not have to be scary or intimidating – a purpose that I found by doing exactly that.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
The Gorls Club (@gorlsclubhtx) is a social club to encourage girls in their twenties + thirties – arguably the hardest time to meet new people and make genuine connections – to try new hobbies & make new friends while doing so. The concept is all about the idea that we are all different people who like different things – & that’s okay. We’re most likely to find our people doing the things we love. Over time, we have adopted a second mission of community; we love to share our audience with local and small Houston businesses and bring awareness to women-owned side gigs. We’re all about the idea that you can do anything and everything! We’re about supporting and uplifting each other while spreading the word about what’s hot and new in our city.

What makes us different from other social clubs is that we believe in curating more intimate, intentional events while also keeping things open and approachable. We have about 5-6 events per month and we open an average of about 20-30 spots per event. Our events are sometimes as small as 5 girls – the BEST way to leave an event feeling like you actually know everyone you just met! Our memberships allow for all levels of curiosity and connection to the city – whether you’re just looking for some free fitness class opportunities, want to try your hand at a cool hobby, or you want access to special discount codes for small businesses around town, there’s something here for you.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say be passionate, think creatively, and just ask – you never know where you’ll get a yes!

Our very first event was for 12 strangers, who I DM’d personally to invite and explain the concept I was creating for. We were hosted by Flight Club Darts Bar, a place that took a chance on me out of all the places in Houston that I reached out to – and now a year and a half later we have waitlists full of girls waiting to get into events, and all different places reaching out to us to collaborate. Believe in your idea!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
There is certainly an aspect of running a non-profit social club as a ‘side gig’ that can become overwhelming; you want to balance your life out and put time into your passion project without sacrificing the parts of your life that matter most – your own hobbies, your relationships, your routine, your work, etc. You want to please everyone, and it can get to a point where it feels like a job and not a little club you started on a random Tuesday… but it’s about reminding yourself that you’re not out here saving lives, and that a passion project is supposed to be fun!

I’ve been lucky enough to find an amazing, dedicated & talented team of girls who share my passion for the mission – surround yourself by others who lift you up. The Gorls Club absolutely could not run without each one of my team members!

Overall, my advice is to take a breath, take time for you. Remember your reason, and prioritize what matters most!
