We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hannah Nichols a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hannah, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
I’ve been through a lot of stress and trauma in my life, so I’ve learned to just take it a day at a time. Starting at nine years old, I feel like I’ve been fighting an uphill battle in life. I’ve had to go through things I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I just trust that everything will be ok, even if I’m not sure how. It’s hard to keep going sometimes, but it’s always worth it in the end.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a tattoo artist located in Fort Worth, Texas and love creating a safe, welcoming environment as well as unique, and somewhat quirky, designs for my clients. Right now, I tattoo using a machine. However, I’m working on learning handpoke techniques so I can hopefully offer that service soon as well!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say the first piece of knowledge I’ve acquired is to not chase trends. There are lots of styles that are considered “trendy” right now that will ultimately die out in a few years. If you base your work on trends, you prevent yourself from developing your own unique style. Draw what speaks to you and your demographic will find you.
The second thing I’ve learned is that your environment makes all the difference for both you and your client. Make accommodations if necessary and add special touches like specific music and decor. When your space is a reflection of your intentions, both you and the client will feel at ease.
Finally, staying true to yourself will take you so far. There is absolutely no reason to change who you are to “fit in” to this industry. People will appreciate your genuine nature and love you and your work even more because of it.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to collaborate with other artists! Any type of artist or brands that are interested I would love to collaborate with! You can either email me at [email protected] or dm me on instagram and I’ll get back to you asap. Let’s make something cool together!
