Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Quezada. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hannah, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Optimism is all about perspective. Sometimes you have to fight for it, but one way I maintain optimism is through practicing thanksgiving. In my life I’ve definitely had my share of hardships, but through practicing thanksgiving and having faith, I live in optimism. Like a habit, practicing giving thanks even when times are difficult, will produce the habit of optimism.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Art and loving people are my passions! Whether it is through an abstract painting, a new take on latte art (I am also a barista), or through a song, I love to make people smile. You never know what someone is facing so it’s best to love on someone and bring some brightness to their day! In my recent project, Good Advice, my goal was to create fun musical pieces that would not only be a jam for a drive to the beach with friends, but would also be relatable to common thoughts we face as well. I’m proud of this project because I got to work with other creatives as well, and it was a lot of fun!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1) Courage 2) Discipline
3) Teachability
It’s important to have courage to follow through on your dreams/goals because it’s going to require time and discipline, feedback and dependence on others who have traveled the road before you. Growth is essentially what we’re after, and we cannot get there on our own effectively. We need one another. Sometimes we need accountability (for me I set days in my week to devote to my craft). If you have a goal, write it down, be intentional, and invite someone to help make it happen!
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
A current obstacle I am working through and overcoming is how to keep your creativity alive when life hits you hard. For example, in recent years my life went through multiple changes all around the same time. From moving to different states, to a breakup, to rediscovering myself and with family hardships, my character was being tested hardcore, and honestly I was in “survival mode” for a long time. I couldn’t even pick up a paintbrush for a year because I was so drained. And to all of this, I learned that it is ok. There is a time to grieve and there is a time to rest. Because, in the resting and authenticity is actually where the creativity flows from. Sometimes you just need to go through whatever it is you’re going through, honor your season, and trust that you’ll come out resilient and with lots of beautiful stories to tell one day because you overcame it!
