Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Hannah Ray. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hannah, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I am very prideful when it comes to confidence and self-esteem. I’d say as a business owner, I’ve really tapped into this aspect of myself. When I first started, I was uneasy as any new business owner would be. As time went on, though, I realized that standing firm in your knowledge and skill set is what makes your mark in the business world. How would I ever expect someone to trust in my business if I didn’t have confidence in myself as the owner? Growing my knowledge in my skills and continuing to learn and grow so that my skills are always the best I can provide for my clients has made me the confident business owner that I am today.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Survival swim is such an important life-saving skill for our youth, especially living in Florida where water surrounds us. The learning process behind survival swim is so unique in that children learn based off sensory motor skills, as well as, behavioral. Children learn to navigate the water, as well as, how to react. If water is rising, they learn to hold their breath. If their chin drops down in a float, they learn to tilt their chin up. It’s a fine balancing act, that is a true art to witness how each child learns, reacts, and self-rescues differently. No two children will swim or float the same. That’s why each lesson is tailored to fit their individual needs.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities I believe that were most impactful in my journey are: confidence, courage, and compassion. I believe that confidence in myself and my skills was a quality that had to develop over time, but was very important in setting boundaries in the pool and in my policies. I had to hold space for courage in myself, my students, and the parents; courage in the process of learning survival swim and assessing & navigating everyone’s individual needs. Lastly, working with people and their children you have to have compassion. Survival swim isn’t always the easiest to witness, but it’s always an amazing outcome to be a part of. Showing compassion for parents and their children goes a long way in this field. My advice would be to keep a positive mindset and always show grace for yourself and your clients as you continue to build upon your business.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
I’d spend the decade tapping into my family. I would lead with intention in everything that I do- whether it be work, home, or relationships. Being intentional and making memories would be on the forefront of my mind.
