Meet Hannah Wen

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hannah Wen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hannah below.

Hannah, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?

Being the only one who looks different in a room can feel intimidating at first, but it’s actually an opportunity to stand out. Embrace your uniqueness and own your confidence—people remember those who are authentic. Use your difference to your advantage and offer fresh insights. your background or experiences could provide valuable viewpoints others cannot. Coming from a multi-cultural background, I often find myself creating more connections because of my difference, as others will often be curious about my journey. It’s not about fitting in but standing out. Ultimately, your difference can become a powerful tool, making you memorable and influential in ways you might not expect.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My business Indigo Culture Inc. was born out of the desire to create a platform where artists and creatives from diverse backgrounds can come together and collaborate. It’s a melting pot of cultures, with inclusivity at the heart of everything we do. From fashion event production to modeling agency and clothing line, we’re dedicated to bridging gaps and showcasing the beauty of difference. My mission is to provide a platform that celebrates creativity in all its forms, while pushing fashion boundaries and creating opportunities for everyone who loves fashion, no matter who they are and where they come from.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Consistency, make adjustments, a good taste/design background.

“Do not take ‘no’ for an answer.” When I debuted in China, my look wasn’t initially appreciated, and it was a tough experience. I was told “no” 98% of the time because my look didn’t resonate with the market. But I refused to let it discourage me or make me feel less than. Instead of accepting rejection, I saw it as a chance to try something different. I shifted my focus to the US market, believing there was a place where my unique style and perspective would be valued. That shift completely changed everything. My career took off, and I ended up walking in New York Fashion Week and starting my own fashion business in Atlanta. Sometimes, rejection isn’t about your worth—it’s about finding the right space that recognizes your talent.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

Learning the power of saying “no” has been just as important as saying “yes.” There’s that saying, “scary money makes no money,” which implies taking risks to grow, but my take on this is more about having the power to say “no” to the work that don’t align with your values or comfort zone. Saying “no” doesn’t mean limiting yourself; it means protecting your time, energy, and creative vision. When you find clients who truly respect your work and match your energy, the collaboration becomes something special. Finding a client that matches your energy and respect your work is key to making outstanding creation. As we elevate our career, understand that not everyone can have access to your time and energy. Carry yourself the way your higher self want to be treated.
