Meet Hannah Williams

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hannah Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hannah, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I think purpose is such an interesting topic as everyone has a unique purpose. For me personally, my purpose is to just be a light and empower people. We live in a dark world and everyone has something going on in their life, so why not be the reason someone smiles or find a little bit of joy in a moment.
It was years ago when I was speaking with a friend who did mission trips, and I voiced feeling like I didn’t know what my purpose was. At the time I was just a waxer for a corporate company and didn’t feel like that had much significance. After telling my friend that I didn’t feel like I had purpose she just looked at me with shock and said “Hannah… you touch people!” My response was along the lines of “well duh… I have to wax them”. We laughed but then she began again with “you touch people in more ways though. You are so good at making someone feel comfortable and feeling good about themselves. That is a gift to be able to do that.”
And honestly she was right. It could’ve been worded a little different but she was right. In today’s world and culture of social media and comparison, it really is a gift to make someone feel comfortable in their own skin and empowered.
From that moment on, it became my mission to always be a light and remind people of their worth, build them up and empower them. It is something that can be done in any situation and any place. That is how I find my purpose.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

It’s hard to pick just 3 important qualities or skills that have impact but I’d have to say that number one would be being teachable/coachable. You can never know enough and you can learn something from everyone. Keeping an open mind and being humble is so important.
The second thing is kind of similar to the first, but READ. Reading is one of the quickest easiest ways to learn. One of my all-time favorite books is ‘How to win friends and influence people’ By Dale Carnegie. This is a timeless classic, offering a plethora of insight and knowledge to set yourself up for success.
The third thing would be to find your why. Having a “WHY” is what will fuel your endeavors. What’s the point of doing anything if you don’t have a “why”? And when things get hard, it’s your “why” that will keep you going. My “why” is people. I value people. When things have gotten hard and I wanted to give up, it was my clients and my team that kept me showing up.
If you have your “why” and you fully believe in it, the possibilities are endless.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was set an example. I was blessed to be raised by amazing humans. My parents set the example of what hard work looked like, and what being selfless and humble looked like. But most importantly it was their love. My parents were never perfect and things weren’t always easy, but they sure loved our family and they were willing to do whatever was necessary for things to be okay.
At one point my Dad worked three jobs, my mom worked and ran around doing everything for my sister and me. They raised us to put others first, and if we wanted something to go after it. They taught us that failing wasn’t a bad thing, but a necessary thing for growth.
I’m blessed and thankful for the example they set and the love they had for us.
