Meet Hanne Lie Davis

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hanne Lie Davis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hanne, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose by getting extremely sick in my early and mid twenties. I developed extremely chronic insomnia where I didn’t sleep at all for about 4 years and didn’t receive help by either the allopathic or holistic route. In fact, they made me worse. I had other symptoms too, I was diagnosed hypothyroid and couldn’t lose weight, I had acne and difficult menses, extreme bloating and gut issues, you name it I had the symptom – but the insomnia was the most debilitating of all of them. So I had to find an even more alternative route and figure out the root causes of my sleep troubles, I worked with someone more ‘outside of the system’ and ended up getting answers through functional labs that I never had before and continued to do so through my own education. After that I decided I never want what happened to me to happen to other people so now I am a holistic practitioner and help clients all over the world get to the root of their health issues. It’s the most rewarding work I’ve ever done because I know what it’s like to be lost with your health and have no answers – so to provide this to people and give them lasting solutions fills me with the utmost joy.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a functional health practitioner, meaning I run functional labs that test your gut, minerals, etc and correlate them to your lifestyle and health history to figure out the ROOT of what is causing your health symptoms. Why I’m different is most practitioners might run a lab test and go “oh I have low vitamin D” and the practitioner will prescribe a vitamin D supplement to them. What I do is figure out WHY the person has low vitamin D (hint – it’s usually from a mineral imbalance.) I apply this to everything – hormones, gut health, skin health, etc. I don’t want to give you a bandaid with a supplement – I want to do the work alongside you to heal the multiple imbalances in your body that are causing your symptoms. I then record a thorough interpretation of the labs I run so the client feels empowered with knowledge about everything that’s going on in their body, so they know all the opportunities for them to heal. I then create a protocol for them that will include lifestyle changes and detox habits for them to implement alongside a supplement protocol, we do this in progressive stages as it took time for the body to break down, and it did it in a systematic way to heal you. Knowing that, I work on rebuilding your body in a systematic way to give it the tools to heal naturally as I truly believe your body WANTS you to heal. It takes work but to have lasting effects and to know how to take care of your body when we’re done is my ultimate goal – I want to be the last practitioner you see.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, I wish someone had guided me by telling me not to fall for marketing tactics that YXZ supplement would “balance my hormones.” I learnt the hard way that just because something is natural doesn’t mean it’s good for you, and can throw you more biochemically out of balance. I know because supplements messed up my hormones and I see how they affect my clients by their labs. Same with bio-hacking. We have come so far from how we are supposed to live as humans that we’re trying to fast-track our health, but really we need the basics of health. These include whole foods, daily movement, watching the sunrise and sunset, going to bed early, spending time in nature, no phone 1 hour before bed, quality time with loved ones, etc. Nail these down and you will be ahead of 95% of the curve.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

I have expanded my practice a lot over the past 12 months. I have learnt even more about various root causes and what labs are necessary to run from the beginning. Reality is, labs can chase symptoms just like supplements can- so running labs that get to people’s root cause is very important. I learnt this because after feeling better for a while and having reached a place where my health was much better, it started to degrade again and I couldn’t figure out why. I realized I was living in black mold and that this was causing my old symptoms to come back and new ones to form. Since then I have dived deep into mold and how it’s a very common (since ancient times – mold is talked about in the Bible how it affects mental and physical health) and often overlooked root cause. It’s hard when these things happen to us but I chose to use this roadblock in my health to learn more and better serve my clients in the future.
