We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hans Isaacson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hans, so great to have you with us today. There are so many topics we want to ask you about, but perhaps the one we can start with is burnout. How have you overcome or avoided burnout?
In the creative world, burnout is something that just about everyone has either encountered or will encounter at some point. How you are able to deal with it is what can either make or break your passion and love for your art. For me, overcoming burnout means actually putting my camera away for a chunk of time and focusing more on the other aspects of my job and life. It’s extremely easy to get carried away in the current of life and forget to let yourself take a break. Just allow yourself time away from your craft, and maybe that time is even spent doing another hobby or activity.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
It is fun to be back chatting with you guys! I have been able to do a couple interviews prior to this, so it’s cool to read back on those and see what has changed since then.
I am Hans, a photographer and creative person from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I create outdoor lifestyle and brand content, as well as portraits and short form video projects. Over the last six months, I have been able to work with some really cool people, creating content of all different types.
I appreciate the personal bonds and connections I have been able to make with my clients, as well as being able to support their brand and business identity at the same time. Creating content for people truly bring joy to my life and I would not trade this job for anything else!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My advice to anyone just starting out with photography is to bring your camera with you everywhere and always be shooting. Create photos of everything; birthday parties, landscapes, your grandmother, your pet etc. Always have that thing on you because the only way to learn and get better is to keep doing it!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
If you are a brand, business or even just a person that is looking for content but aren’t sure where to start, I would love to chat with you and even help to bring your vision to life. Often people either don’t think they need quality content or they do not know where to start. I would happily chat with you and help you find out what it is your brand is missing and how we can create content to fill that void.
