We recently connected with Hari Har Khalsa and have shared our conversation below.
Hari Har , thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
Sat Nam (Sat means truth and Nam means identity) Repeating Sat Nam tunes a person into their true self.
I am 67 years old. When I was a 16 year old teenager I was getting into trouble and experimenting with drugs. My parents wanting to help me sent me to a 2 month summer camp called the Boulder Valley Institute outside Boulder CO. I learned yoga and meditation from a couple of the staff there. I started practicing yoga daily on my own and would go up to the roof of my apartment building each morning before sunrise and practice yoga. I soon stopped using drugs and had a more positive outlook on life. At age 18 while still in High School I was part of a school program called Social Discovery. For my Highly Structured placement I had a choice between a Military academy and the Boston Kundalini yoga/sikh ashram. I chose the ashram and really liked it. At the ashram we rose every morning at 3am and took a cold shower and then did yoga and meditation. After HS I moved into the ashram. I soo became a Sikh and at age 33 I got married and I have a 31 year old son. I worked in the Security Guard business for over 25 years and started my own Private Investigation company in 2010. In 2020 i moved to LA and opened a Kundalini Yoga studio that had closed during the pandemic. I get up before 3am almost every day and do yoga and my Sikh practice. This practice has become the foundation of my life and has helped me to be successful.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In 2020 I opened up a Kundalini Yoga studio called Kundalini LA at 1535 South Robertson Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90035. We have yoga classes and I teach a Teacher training course called Master’s Touch. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
There are seven steps to happiness.
Step 1 Commitment – in order to be successful you must commit. Commitment will give you Character
Step 2 Character – will give you dignity.
Step 3 Dignity – will give you Divinity. Then you will have no duality
The other steps are
4 – Divinity
5 – Grace
6 – Power to sacrifice
7 – Happiness
The purpose of life is to be happy that is our birthright. Develop good habits and discipline you can be happy in life.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My spiritual teacher was the most important influence in my life. He challenged my ego and helped me to be successful and happy.
