Meet Harlow Haynes

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Harlow Haynes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Harlow with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic is fueled by a relentless, burning desire to be the best and to succeed in and outside the gym. It’s more than motivation—it’s a fire that never goes out, pushing me to keep going even when things get tough. I don’t believe in shortcuts or settling for “good enough.” Every goal I set becomes a personal mission, and I give it everything I’ve got. That drive to rise above, to constantly improve, and to prove to myself that I can do more—be more—is what keeps me moving forward, no matter the obstacles.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am an 8 year old gymnast training to tackle two levels this up coming year to catapult my gymnastics career into the optional levels (higher levels).
After finding large success in my level 3 and level 4 season, there is no question that THIS is my future. We have recently made the decision to home school for the 2025-2026 school year to allow for day time training in the gym.
Daytime training allows for smaller group training, access to top coaching staff, and the ability to have evening hours at home with family and friends. It also allows for more hours available to train. Last season I was training about 16 hours, and this summer I have started training 22.5 hours.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

One thing that has helped me find early success is observing and soaking everything in around me. Taking in all of the talent and coaching that happens at Texas Dreams Gymnastics. We have Olympians, D1 college athletes, national team members… There is no limit to where these coaches can take you. As long as you DREAM BIG.
Another quality I have is not over thinking things. Gymnasts can often develop mental blocks over big or even very small skills. So far in my career I have been able to remain fearless and confident in my abilities.
Finally, my determination has proven to be one of the strongest tools in my belt. I am always determined and motivated to try and perfect new skills. I thrive on “up training”. Often times coaches reward me with learning new skills to motivate me.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

I started gymnastics at a recreational gym when I was a one year old. As I took to the sport quickly, they did the research, visited the gyms, and met the coaches. They wanted to provide me with the best opportunities possible. There are a number of nationally recognized and famous gyms in the DFW area. But they followed their gut on to what gym would fit my personality and help me flourish as a gymnast. Even if it meant making sacrifices.
