Meet Harris Kligman

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Harris Kligman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Harris below.

Hi Harris, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

My father always advised me to remain calm. He said, if you remain calm, you can view all situations logically and reach a successful conclusion. This advice was always at the forefront of my approach to everything I encountered and it enabled me to gain confidence and self-esteem during my life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I embarked on my writing odyssey from an unconventional and modest locale, my home in North Stamford, CT. For an entire decade, this unassuming abode served as my creative haven, fondly referred to as the “downstairs dungeon.” Within these unpretentious confines, I diligently labored amidst Spartan surroundings—a bare floor, a rickety chair, and an aging Windows desktop PC that Microsoft had long forsaken in terms of updates.

My writing regimen commenced in the early morning hours and persisted until exhaustion prevailed, sometimes resulting in unintended keyboard-induced naps. My writing style defied convention, eschewing the meticulous plot outlines and character sketches favored by many writing experts. Instead, I would conceive a title and plunge headlong into the narrative, permitting the storyline and characters to come to life as I penned my thoughts. These creative elements were nurtured by a rich tapestry of experiences garnered over thirty-five years of traversing three continents during my international travels.

Each writing session culminated at the conclusion of a chapter, only to be resumed the following morning with a blank canvas, devoid of predetermined notions about the story’s trajectory.

My storytelling wellspring drew from a deep reservoir of life experiences, including my globe-trotting adventures, an extended residence in South Korea spanning four and a half years, and a twenty-year tenure as a Reserve Military Intelligence officer, crossed trained as an Infantry Officer, with the United States Army.

Upon completing a novel, I would take the manuscript to a local office supply store for professional binding. Subsequently, I sought the insights of friends and family before consigning the manuscript to the confines of a cardboard box, where they lay dormant for nearly a decade.

In summary, my literary repertoire boasts an impressive collection of approximately eleven novels, five children’s stories, and numerous short stories.

The notion of publishing these literary gems did not crystallize until the advent of the 2020 pandemic. From that pivotal moment, history was made, as eleven novels and three illustrated children’s books journeyed into the hands of global readers through platforms such as Amazon, and graced the shelves of prominent retailers like Walmart, Books – A – Million and Barnes & Noble.

As 2024 unfolds, the literary treasures cultivated during those ten years in the “downstairs dungeon” continue to captivate audiences worldwide. Fresh titles, including “Life On The Dark Side,” emerge to enrich the literary landscape, promising more captivating stories and enduring narratives for readers to savor.

Expected to release in the second half of 2024, will be my twelfth novel entitled “A Woman To Die For.” This story is about a young woman who is employed in a company which creates robots. A chance meeting and a subsequent romantic relationship develops into a life and death situation.

This journey has been exciting for me because I have a wealth of international experiences through my business and military careers spanning thirty plus years. I have met with and interacted with business professionals and military officials who have dominated the political and business sectors of their countries. Some of these have been highly professional, others not so much and still others, highly dangerous. I have managed to navigate these sectors extremely well. As a result I have concluded significant business in these areas over these thirty years, and managed to develop many close personal relationships. I have used these experiences, the situation and the people I interacted with as the basis on my twelve fictional novels.

I find it exciting to relive these experiences with these people once again. as I bring them to life as characters in my novels.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I believe being a good listener is extremely important. I learned early on that you don’t learn anything by talking. The second quality is to rely on a calm demeanor. When you’re calm you can successfully solve most adverse situations that you face. The third is honesty. The significant benefits of honesty is the trust it builds. Honesty can lead to stronger relationships with friends, family and coworkers.

When early in your journey, remember that once these three qualities become part of your core character, you will project yourself as a person that others should emulate. Thus you serve as a role model to others.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents instilled in me the belief that I should always help others. Helping those who are in a less fortunate position gives you a sense of worth and purpose. When you do an act of kindness, it not only helps another individual but also benefits you in knowing that you have contributed something to making that person’s life better.
