We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Harrison Stone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Harrison below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Harrison with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Honestly I have found that work ethic for me just comes from a genuine love for what I get to do. To me, being an actor is the greatest job in the world, and I want to make sure every chance I get to do my job, that I do it to be very best of my ability. For me, if you love what you do, then you will never work a day in your life, and I just love the process of acting and filmmaking so much that it never feels like work. So I am able to spend hours and hours on end and just love every second of it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I grew up in a small town in East Texas called Daingerfield. I have always been very very shy and introverted and never imagined I would ever do anything like become an actor. I was also always very creative, and after trying to find the best outlet for that creativity, while watching a movie one day and scrolling on the internet I saw an add for acting classes. Assuming I would be the worst one, I ignored them. Eventually after I had read my share of acting books by the likes of Stella Adler and Stanislavski, and watched every Brando film available, I finally decided to give classes a shot. Eventually I got an agent and started auditioning, and am happy to say I have been so blessed with the opportunity to get to work on amazing projects like Academy Award Best Picture Winner “Green Book” or the popular WWII Netflix Limited Series “The Liberator’ where I had the opportunity to film in Poland. Thankfully this year I have several shows and movies that will hopefully be released. One of which being the Apple TV series “Manhunt” where I got to work on a few episodes with acclaimed Emmy winning actor Tobias Menzies and renowned director Carl Franklin. I also had the amazing opportunity to work with Orlando Bloom on the film “Red Right Hand” which I hope releases this year. I have several other projects in post that I am very excited about as well.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Well the three things I have found that help me are probably, love, failure and resilience. Firstly love, because again, if you love what you are doing, then you will enjoy the process no matter the results. I genuinely feel as an actor that I will be doing this for the rest of my life. Whether that be on sets of films and tv shows or simply in class doing scenes or plays on a local scale. Life is short and I am thankful I have found something I absolutely love doing. Secondly, failure to me is absolutely essential to having any sort of success. You have to be willing to try things and fail and not be good so that you can learn and grow and get better. And then lastly you have to be resilient and be able to overcome the moments when you fail or when you are disappointed and continue to work hard and strive and move forward with the passion you have always had.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
My parents, have and have always told me that they always will believe in me. My dad has always told me that if I wanted to be the President of the United States he would support me and that he would believe that I could do it. And as an actor, you always have to have a reader for your auditions and my mom has been my go to reader ever since I started. Many times its hard work, and very unrewarding having to help me do countless takes over and over again until they are right, but my mom has always been willing to be there to help me. My parents are the best parents on the planet and I am so thankful for them.
