Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Harsh Kumar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Harsh, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence and self-esteem grew through a combination of passion, persistence, and the belief that every voice has the power to inspire. I began my journey in Gorakhpur with live theatre, performing in plays like Deepdaan of Panna Dhay, where I portrayed Chandan. That performance led to my first major opportunity—hosting a Dainik Jagran event—which became a turning point in my career.
From there, I went on to host the prestigious Gorakhpur Mahotsav for three consecutive years, sharing the stage with icons like Ravi Kishan and Kalpana Patowary. But it was in 2022, when I voiced young Jake Sully in Avatar: The Way of Water (Hindi dub), that I truly began to recognize the impact of my voice. That role opened the door to voicing over 55+ ads and characters like Bunty Batra in Chikoo Aur Bunty, Goodra in Pokémon, and Rangda in Rangda Ka Mayajaal.
Facing the mic taught me discipline and self-trust. The voice industry is competitive, but every successful dub reminded me that I belonged. I built my confidence through relentless practice, affirmations, and feedback from directors who believed in my talent.
Today, whether I’m voicing a cartoon character or speaking at an award show like Adiyogi Samman 2024, I carry the same mindset: be authentic, be prepared, and let your voice carry your story.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Harsh Kumar—a professional voice actor, performer, and host—passionately working at the intersection of storytelling and sound. From lending my voice to characters in globally recognized franchises like Pokémon Horizons, Chhota Bheem, to voicing over 55 advertisements for brands like Swiggy, Zomato, Domino’s, Blinkit, and Moj, I bring stories to life through emotion, precision, and an ear for authenticity.
What makes my journey special is that I began on a humble theatre stage in Gorakhpur, and with perseverance, I’ve built a national presence. Whether I’m voicing a mischievous kid like Bunty in Chikoo Aur Bunty (2024) or dubbing mythical villains like Rangda in Rangda Ka Mayajaal, every role allows me to explore a new shade of expression. I don’t just speak into a mic—I become the character.
I’m also proud to have hosted Gorakhpur Mahotsav for three consecutive years, sharing the stage with legends like Ravi Kishan and Kalpana Patowary. My brand as a performer is rooted in versatility, discipline, and a strong connection with my audience. Whether I’m performing live or dubbing in studio, I focus on creating impact through voice, presence, and emotion.
What’s new?
This year, I’m expanding into film production with the horror short film Rimjhim: Woh Laut Aayi, where I also serve as producer and voice actor.
Looking ahead, I’m collaborating with new animation studios and exploring global voiceover projects to take Indian voice artistry to international platforms. My goal is to inspire young talents from small towns like mine—and show them that with passion, your voice truly can reach the world.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey as a voice actor and performer have been:
1. Consistency
In the entertainment industry, talent gets you noticed—but consistency builds your career. I made it a point to train daily, practice voice modulation, study new characters, and never stop showing up, even on tough days.
Advice: Create a daily routine for your craft. Whether it’s 30 minutes of voice drills or practicing monologues, repetition builds mastery.
2. Adaptability
From voicing a child in Avatar: The Way of Water (Hindi dub) to a demonic villain like Rangda in Rangda Ka Mayajaal, versatility helped me land diverse roles. Being open to feedback, shifting tones, and understanding different genres made me a reliable artist for clients and directors.
Advice: Don’t box yourself in. Try everything—from animation to audiobooks, from comedy to horror. Record and review your work regularly to sharpen your adaptability.
3. Industry Awareness & Networking
Knowing how the voiceover and entertainment industry works—auditions, sound engineering, dubbing formats—gave me an edge. Attending events like Gorakhpur Mahotsav and connecting with professionals.
Advice: Learn the business side of your art. Follow voice actors, join online communities, and build a personal brand through a strong digital presence.
At the heart of it all, stay curious, stay humble, and never stop evolving. Your unique voice is your power—refine it, believe in it, and let the world hear it.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Many people have shaped my journey, but a few key figures stand out for the impact they’ve had on my growth as a performer and voice artist.
First and foremost, my parents—Rajesh Kumar and Sangita Saroj—have been my emotional backbone. Their constant belief in my talent and their support through every stage—from local theatre shows to national-level projects—gave me the courage to chase an unconventional dream.
One of the most transformative moments of my career came when I was discovered by the head of Dainik Jagran during my performance as Chandan in Deepdaan of Panna Dhay. That opportunity to host a major event led me to another turning point—being invited to host Gorakhpur Mahotsav, where I had the honor of working closely with none other than Ravi Kishan ji.
Ravi Kishan is not just a film star and politician—he’s an inspiration to artists from Uttar Pradesh and beyond. Watching his journey from a regional icon to a national figure taught me the importance of hard work, consistency, and staying rooted in your culture. His team’s support and his personal encouragement gave me the confidence to represent myself as both a performer and a voice professional on a big stage. His humility and energy have left a lasting impression on me.
Finally, the directors and producers behind shows like Chhota Bheem, Pokémon Horizons, and Chikoo Aur Bunty gave me trust and creative freedom that allowed me to grow. These roles pushed me to expand my vocal range, understand character psychology, and deliver with emotional precision.
I truly believe that while talent opens the door, it’s the people who believe in you—mentors, family, and industry veterans like Ravi Kishan ji—who help you walk through it with confidence.
