Meet Haruka Hayashi

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Haruka Hayashi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Haruka with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I was born and raised in Japan, and my experiences there have significantly shaped my work ethic. Growing up, I was immersed in a culture that values dedication, respect, and continuous improvement. The concept of ‘kaizen,’ or the idea of making small, gradual changes for the better, has been a guiding principle in my life. It encourages me to strive for excellence in everything I do, whether it’s in my professional pursuits or personal development.

Additionally, the emphasis on community and helping one another resonates deeply with me. Learning the importance of collaboration and supporting those around me has instilled a sense of responsibility to contribute positively to my environment. These values, rooted in my upbringing, continue to inspire me and influence my approach to work and relationships.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As the proud founder of Renew Ink, a permanent makeup business I started in 2020 during the pandemic, I truly believe that my surroundings reflect who I am and where I’m at in life. Every day, I work to create a warm and welcoming space for my clients, where they can enhance their natural beauty in a relaxed atmosphere. It brings me so much joy to see the confidence my work instills in others, and I’m dedicated to building friendly, trusting relationships with each person I meet. Your journey is important to me, and I’m here to support you every step of the way!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back on my journey with Renew Ink, I can pinpoint three qualities that have been incredibly impactful: resilience, creativity, and strong communication skills.

1. **Resilience**: Starting a business during the pandemic was no small feat! There were countless challenges, but staying resilient helped me push through tough times. My advice to newcomers is to embrace setbacks as learning opportunities. It’s normal to face obstacles, but how you respond to them will define your path.

2. **Creativity**: In the world of permanent makeup, creativity is key. It allows me to tailor my work to each client’s unique features and desires. I suggest experimenting and honing your creative skills regularly—take workshops, practice different techniques, and stay inspired by trends in the beauty industry.

3. **Strong Communication Skills**: Building trust with clients is essential, and effective communication plays a big role in that. Listening to their needs and expressing ideas clearly creates a supportive environment. For those just starting out, I recommend practicing active listening and engaging in conversations to understand what your clients truly want. Remember, every interaction is an opportunity to enhance your communication skills!

Overall, be open to learning and growing. Every step you take, no matter how small, contributes to your journey!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

1. Tackle the To-Do List: Jot down what I need to do and figure out which tasks are the most important. Breaking big jobs into smaller steps makes them way less scary!

2. Mindfulness Moments: Just a few minutes of focused breathing can work wonders, helping me feel more grounded and relaxed.

3. Talk it Out: Remember, it’s totally okay to reach out to friends or family if you’re feeling a bit weighed down. Sharing my thoughts can lighten the load.

4. Keep it Neat: A tidy workspace can do wonders for my mind! A little organization goes a long way in creating a calmer environment.
