We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hasanat Adewole. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hasanat below.
Hasanat , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I believe my purpose found me through my curiosity. From a young age, I’ve been fascinated by fashion—not just as an art form, but from a construction perspective. I was always intrigued by how clothes are made and the stories behind their creation. That curiosity grew into a passion for telling stories through fashion. For me, fashion is more than just clothing; it’s a medium to express history, culture, and personal narratives. Finding my purpose meant leaning into that fascination and using it to create designs that speak, inspire, and connect.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a textile designer with a current focus on crochet and fully fashioned knits. My passion lies in creating beautiful designs that merge traditional craftsmanship with modern elegance. I specialize in various handcrafted techniques, developing textiles that range from smooth to richly textured. By incorporating yarns, upcycled fabrics, and beads, my brand crafts pieces that are romantic, elegant, and sophisticated.
Each garment is born from an extensive and thoughtful dialogue with my clients. This collaborative process ensures that every design is unique, ethically made, and intricately detailed—garments that not only celebrate individuality but also make the wearer feel confident, elegant, and empowered. My mission is to blend timeless craftsmanship with contemporary storytelling, making every piece a wearable work of art.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are:
Attention to Detail: Whether it’s the precision in crafting a stitch or the perfect placement of beads, paying close attention to detail has been key in elevating my designs. It’s the small things that make a big difference in the final product.
Patience and Repetition: Mastering any skill takes time. I’ve learned to slow down, practice repeatedly, and embrace the process. This patience allows me to refine my techniques and consistently improve.
Continuous Learning: Fashion is ever-evolving, and staying curious is essential. I dedicate time to deepening my understanding of design, textiles, and construction techniques to ensure my work stays fresh and innovative.
Advice for Beginners:
Keep practicing. It’s easy to get discouraged, but every mistake is a step forward. There’s always room to grow, and the more you practice, the more confident and skilled you’ll become. Be open to learning and never rush the process—great things take time.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Over the past 12 months, the most significant area of growth for me has been in my technical skills. I’ve honed my craft through continuous practice and experimentation, particularly in refining intricate crochet and knitwear techniques. Each project has pushed me to explore new methods, expanding my expertise in both smooth and textured textiles.
This growth has not only elevated the quality of my designs but also deepened my confidence in creating unique, handcrafted pieces that tell a story. It’s been a transformative year of learning, and I’m excited to keep evolving.
