Meet Hassan Chammout

We were lucky to catch up with Hassan Chammout recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hassan, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
I get asked this question a lot. But, one thing I’ve come to accept over the years is that there are always going to be people that don’t want to see you succeed, and their voices may seem louder than your supporters. Every time I’m told I can’t do something, I rise higher and continue to grow. You have to understand that haters will never be satisfied with your accomplishments, no matter how big or small.

They thrive on attempting to bring others down. They failed at their own goals and are unwilling to change their mindsets, that they project their hate and regret on others. If you give in to the words and comments, then you will never move forward in life. Don’t let them win.

Look at me now, I have my short film published in a book that received international recognition. A short film that I created, directed, recorded, edited and acted in. I have received multiple accolades at competitions and events for my singing and acting throughout the years, and am now working on my very own podcast. People said it was impossible…take that! Today, I continue to flourish in my personal life and career, as well as widen my horizons to discover new aspects about myself. You deserve happiness and love.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a full-time college student that enjoys biology and theatre. I have trained in the arts of acting since I was 12, and began professionally training at 17. I have been singing since I was a toddler, and started professionally training at age 12. I am focused on continuing to make something of myself, and satisfy my deepest desires, no matter how difficult or “impossible” they may seem. I have already accomplished so much, and whenever I’m in a stressful or anxious state of mind, I look at all that I’ve achieved, and smile. As a child, I was picked on for my eccentric personality. I would be the shy kid at the corner of the room, having colored pencils and insults thrown at me throughout grade school. It wasn’t until 10th grade that I started to regain my confidence and speak up for myself. I am learning to accept my childhood, and am proud of how strong all the obstacles made me. I wouldn’t be who I was today without my past.

As of recently, I’ve published my very first podcast, titled “The Horror Headquarters”. It will consist of reviews on horror media, deep dives into haunted landmarks across the globe, and even discussions on my own horror experiences. Creating a podcast and giving it to the world have been something that I’ve been striving to do for a long period of time. I am so proud of it so far, and am thrilled to release episodes on a regular basis. Hopefully, by the time this article is out, I’ll have completed my first episode. My podcast is available on multiple streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple and Amazon Music.

I’m also still working on my new short film. I started working on it back in the beginning of 2022, shortly after releasing my first short film, Nightmare. I am putting so much thought and work into this one as well, and am still in the process of filming and working on the tiniest details. I am proud of how it is looking so far, and can’t wait for it to be released. Now, there have been so many pitfalls that arose since 2022, many of which I’m still trying to work through. And, when I think I have enough on my plate, something else arises. This all goes back to the idea that life isn’t perfect, and we can’t control things that aren’t in our hands. Balance your priorities and put your health first, always. That’s something that I’m beginning to embrace.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Trusting the process, building your self-esteem and confidence, and being kind.

There were so many times throughout my journey where I failed countless times, while others were thriving. It’s hard not to compare yourself to others in these times, but you have to remind yourself that everyone has a different path. We all witness and go through our own trials and tribulations, and feel as if they will never end. It’s a battle, but you will emerge from it all with new skills and rich knowledge. Be kind to yourself, try your best to not put yourself down when all feels dark and useless. Also, be respectful to others. You never know what someone is going through. I still fail till this day, and will continue to fail, and that’s okay. The universe has a plan for me, and the more I accept failure, the closer I will get to strengthening my purpose.

I can’t even begin to explain how many empty-minded people will throw arrows and daggers at your dreams. And yes, they could be within your family tree. Make every day of your life count. Do something out of your comfort zone, listen to music, take a Zumba class. Anything at all. Don’t leave yourself to be trapped by your thoughts and others opinions.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Learning how to set up and break down boundaries.

I know my limits when it comes to friends and family. For example, if someone were to suddenly ghost me or walk away without notice, I would get upset and go into self-destruct mode. Or, if someone in your family, distant or close, is expressing negativity and toxic energy towards me, I know not to waste my power and mindset on someone who doesn’t deserve it. I know the type of people I want to have in my life, and as I grow older, I’m sure I will continue to learn more about who and what I want surrounding me.

When it comes to breaking down boundaries, it’s more to do with my personal life and career. I struggled with self-doubt and telling myself, “No, I can’t do that. It’s too late, it’s not worth it”. Looking at where I am today, I’m glad I’ve taken a beating to those types of boundaries, and am able to walk over them feeling empowered. I’m eager to begin collaborating with like-minded people that have similar dreams to mine, and are looking for ways to make their impact on the world.

Overall, I know my worth, even though at times I doubt myself. But, I will not allow anyone to tell me what I can and can’t do.
