We were lucky to catch up with Hayley Bennett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hayley, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I became a mom in college and I was very broke. I started looking for ways to save money and came across couponing. It didn’t take long before I realized that I could save serious money from couponing and it became my new hobby. I was always telling friends and family about the coupon deals I was doing until I decided to create my Instagram account to post my deals there. I originally never thought anyone would really follow it or find it helpful, but as my account continued to grow I realized that I could make a huge difference in people’s lives by teaching them how to coupon and save money.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I started my Instagram account at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 and it’s grown a lot since then. What originally started as just a space to share the coupon deals I found has now turned into my full time job. I’ve been interviewed by Business Insider and The NY Times for the work that I do and I’ve been featured on the news as well. The best part of having this platform is when people reach out to share how much money they’ve saved from following my account.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
One of the most impactful qualities would be to have a good “money mindset”. A lot of people think that they don’t need to save money because they have enough money to pay for things. But couponing isn’t just for those that can’t afford regular prices, it’s for anyone who values their money. I tell people all the time, saving money is so important because the money you save is that much more money that stays in your bank account. If you had the option to spend either $50 or $10 on the same set of items, you’d pick the $10 right? Because why would you want to spend more money than necessary?
When people first start out couponing, I always tell them that any money saved is a great start. Some people get discouraged because they don’t do the big coupon hauls that other couponers do, but you don’t have to do this giant hauls in order to save money. Stay consistent and the amount you’ve saved will grow over time.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My husband has definitely been the most helpful person through all of my endeavors. He’s helped push me when I wanted to quit, helped me become more outgoing and got me out of my shell and is just a great partner all around. My couponing account wouldn’t be what it is today without him.
