We were lucky to catch up with Hayley Wester recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Hayley, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.
Our optimism actually comes from the very product we built our business off of. Both Taj and myself weren’t in the best place mentally and we were struggling with a huge negative life change that continued to drag us down at the time. We were both in therapy and while we were a strong united front, we knew there had to be a better way to lift our spirits. We started brainstorming, testing and eventually came up with our Flow formula that greatly helped our mental health. Personally I struggled with suicidal ideation for many years. When psychedelics completely eradicated my suicidal ideation, something even medication wasn’t able to do, my optimism soared. When psychedelics helped massively with Tajs anger and ADHD, we knew we had something special. Our shared optimism really does come from what we’ve built together and we couldn’t be more optimistic about the future!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I came from a traveling background, I grew up as a military child with a marine father, my mother and two younger brothers. We lived abroad so traveling really helped me to see different cultures, ways of life and differences within medicines. Taj came from a traveling family as well, his father, mother and younger brother also moved around and lived abroad which instantly gave us a connection in our world views. We didn’t get into mushrooms or even had the idea of mushrooms until a few years ago. We have always been focused on bettering our mental health and have been huge fans of therapies for years. I am a survivor of sex trafficking which in itself had the natural progression towards therapy which really did change my perspective and mental health for the better. It wasn’t until a psychedelic experience though, that really healed my suicidal ideation and thoughts which was a miracle. Taj got to see first hand and supported my healing journey during the therapy and psychedelic experience which led to his own revelations on how therapy and mushrooms could have the potential to really manage his ADHD he struggled with. We grow and infuse mushrooms into local Colorado honey from two local honey suppliers here in Denver, CO. We harness two natural remedies (honey and mushrooms) together to create an effective and delicious elixir that helps with mental health in a non traditional path. Our goal is to help as many people with their mental health journey as we can and provide a product that can be used with medicines, on its own or in any part of ones routine. We really believe in the power of psychedelics to help better ones life and to help people see from a different prospective.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Taj and I share a unique set of skills but also have different skill sets from each other which is extremely important in the success of our business together. Taj is a people person, he knows people, loves people and knows how to talk to anyone. His networking skills are incredible and he somehow always draws in people who have like minded agendas. Having networking and people skills is vital to any company. I am very attention to detail and take care of aesthetics. From the branding, packaging, logo, and overall look and feel, I have that part covered. I also am a science person, a bit more of an introvert and love to learn about how things tick. The mushrooms themselves, how they grow and how we can infuse them into honey and other products is also my side of expertise.
I would say passion, networking, customer service and a bit of science is what’s most important in our line of business. Both Taj and I come from customer service and problem solving based pasts that really had a boost we were able to build off of.
How would you describe your ideal client?
Our ideal client is unique in the sense that it’s really everyone in their adult years! Anyone who struggles with their mental health, just looking for an extra added boost of creativity and anyone who is curious about what mushrooms can do for them is our ideal client. We are mental health focused, so anyone who’s looking for alternative ways of getting their mental health to a better place is who we cater to. We have a few clients who are on medication that they do need and our products help boost their medication to work better. We also have a few clients who didn’t have a great experience with medications and they do far better on our product alone. It’s really unique in the sense that mental health remedies are so vastly different from person to person and we’re happy to help in any way that we possibly can.
