Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Heather Armijo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Heather, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I believe work ethic is the most important quality in a business owner if you want to succeed. When I started my business, I was working another full-time job and I had a household and two children to take care of. I was working evenings, weekends, lunch breaks- basically anytime I had a free moment to build my new photography business. My work ethic comes from growing up watching my Mom. I was raised by a single Mom who also owned her own business. When I was younger, we didn’t have much but she worked tirelessly to move us to a better home and be able to provide our family with anything we needed. I never remember sick days or her complaining about how much she had on her shoulders, I just remember her always getting things done, even if it seemed impossible or out of reach, she could make it happen. It taught me that the outcome of something you want, is often tied to how hard you work for it.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a newborn and maternity studio photographer in Katy, Texas. I’ve been blessed to run my business for over 10 years now. I know first hand how quickly we move through the stages of our lives and here at Heather Armijo photography, we focus on newborns and all the excitement that surrounds this stage- from your pregnancy to baby’s first birthday.
I love getting to know my clients and being apart of their lives. There’s nothing more rewarding than having clients come back to HAP for photographs year after year. I also pride myself on my professionalism. I want your portrait experience to be just that- an experience! From quick correspondence to giving clients all the information needed to prepare for a successful session- I am here every step of the way through this process.
Because I work primarily in my studio, you can rest assured we will delivery quality images each time you visit our studio. We do this by providing thorough instructions, as well as your basic needs during the session and even wardrobe options! We are excited to continue to grow and be able to offer more sessions, more wardrobe options and more assistance throughout the process for our clients.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on the journey of building and growing Heather Armijo Photography I think these three things were most helpful… 1. Connection- Connection with your clients who will pour into your business, who will support, share and love your business. Connection with your brand and the services you are offering. They say you attract like-minded clients, so know who you are and who you hope to reach with your service. Connection with your community. Being a business owner is a give and take. Support others in and outside of your industry so they can support you as well!
2. Consistency- Create business practices and procedures to ensure that each client receives the same quality experience throughout the process. It will not only help your clients, but it will help you manage your business and personal life when you set boundaries and expectations to follow consistently.
3. Continuous Growth- I once read that successful people never stop growing and I could not agree with this more. Not only does growing and working on my services help my clients, but it helps me stay motivated and inspired! I have always liked the idea of mastering my skill and this learning process never stops. Once I reach a goal, a new one begins so I can always take my business to the next level and keep up with changing trends.
Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
If I could have you read any one book, it would be Atomic Habits by James Clear. This book is about adopting good habits and breaking bad ones. My favorite quote from the book is, “When you fall in love with the process rather than the product, you don’t have to wait to give yourself permission to be happy. You can be satisfied anytime your system is running.” This truly changed my outlook on so many aspects of my life. As long as you are on track or going the direction you want, you can feel accomplished to be on the journey rather than the destination.
