We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Heather Schuette and Brittany Burns a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Heather/ Brittany, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Brittany and I share a strong partnership and friendship that was built on consistent support and encouragement. We recognize each other’s strengths and deeply appreciate the unique qualities we each bring to the table. Whenever one of us doubted our ability to start this business, the other offered unwavering support and encouragement. By facing our fears head-on, we truly built our confidence and self-esteem.
Our confidence grew steadily as we took small steps and achieved our goals. With each accomplishment, our belief in our ability to create a thriving business strengthened. Our advice is to simply start and be brave, even if you don’t feel ready. You can accomplish far more than you might think. Every challenge you overcome reinforces your ability to achieve your goals.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Our love for saunas started at our local gym, where we used them as a post-workout high to unwind and decompress after a tough workout. Taking a moment to pause from the chaos of life and quiet the noise helped us become more intentional about how we want to show up for ourselves and those we love.
After a birthday trip to Nordic Night Sauna in Stevens Point, Heather and Brittany were astounded by this truly unique and authentic sauna experience. It was a traditional Finnish wood-fired sauna that offered a social setting with other people, fostering connection, community, and camaraderie. It wasn’t something we had sought or even thought they needed, but we discovered it.
Inspired by this incredible sauna experience, Heather and Brittany decided to bring it to their hometown of Wausau. They wanted saunas to become an integral part of their daily lives and wanted to share this amazing experience with others. With the support of Nicole and Abbey at their sister sauna, Nordic Night, they were thrilled to introduce Wausau to this extraordinary sauna experience.
We’ve been open for a little over five months now, and we’re incredibly grateful to the Wausau community for their warm welcome and embrace of this new venture. Our mission has been to create a safe, welcoming space for anyone seeking community, connection, and a haven for self-care. There’s a lot of excitement about our future growth and the potential for even more people to join this vibrant community in the coming months.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Some of the skills that guided us throughout our journey were collaboration, adaptability, and fearlessness. Collaboration allowed us to share knowledge and expertise, while adaptability enabled us to overcome unexpected challenges. Fearlessness allowed us to step into the unknown, even when we doubted our abilities. Taking risks, trying new things, and facing uncertainty head-on were all essential to growing our business. For anyone early in their journey, we encourage you to push past self-doubt. Take small steps outside your comfort zone and trust that with each courageous move, you’ll become more capable and confident.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
We are thrilled to collaborate with individuals passionate about health and wellness who can bring a unique perspective to the sauna experience. Whether through yoga, breathwork, meditation, sound baths, mindfulness practices, massage, or manifesting, we believe there are numerous ways to enhance the benefits of sauna use. If you have a practice or technique that aligns with holistic well-being and can deepen the sauna journey, we would love to connect and explore the possibilities together.
