Meet Heather LaCroix

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Heather LaCroix. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Heather below.

Heather, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I think I found my purpose about 25 years ago. I was working at a corporation in South Florida doing data entry work. The money was decent and the job was stable, but I felt very unfulfilled. I remember praying to find something creative that would make me happy and I would be able to earn a living. I have always been spiritual but not particularly religious so it was not anything formal, just in my head or out loud.

Fast forward to being on a plane to see my parents in Connecticut. I was sitting next to an older gentleman who was very chatty asking me a lot of questions. I confided in him and said how I did not like my job all that much and I wish I was doing something else, but I did not know what. He said out of the blue that I should look into web design and that he knew I would be good at that. I do not know where that came from but it was one of those moments you remember. I made it a point then and there I was going to look into it. When I look back on it, I think he was one of those earth angels you read about to nudge you along on your path. I took the hint.

When I got home I started getting catalogs from the local college and I decided to take a graphic design course. The rest is history. I was absolutely hooked and almost obsessed. I thought I was just going to take one course, but I liked design work so much I decided to go back to school and get a degree in it. One thing led to another and I transitioned out of my corporate job to working at a newspaper, then an internet company, then to myself which has been my main gig since late 2007.

I think designing and helping small businesses look good and market themselves is part of my purpose, along with being my boss. I have had some good times and bad, but I do not regret any of it and would not give it up for the world. I began to specialize in the holistic field because I was always going to workshops at our local bookstore for energy healing, feng shui, divination…all that. I made friends and I found these types of businesses needed websites and design help so it was natural and organic.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
As it says on my website…

“My mission is to blend the artistry of graphic design with spirituality to bring your unique vision to life. I understand that the holistic and spiritual industries require a special touch, and I am dedicated to creating designs that resonate with your brand.”

I do website and graphic design. With websites, I mainly work in WordPress and Divi, but I just learned Wix and I am anticipating getting a hand in Squarespace. I include on-page SEO with every website I build. It is pretty fun to find the best keyphrases for each page and build it into the words and design, so people can find them. I love designing logos and can get lost in the work to find the perfect shape and colors. With graphic design, I do everything from marketing materials, business cards, social media branding, and book cover design. I have to say I get excited every day to show up for my clients.

Over the past year, I opened a shop on Etsy and on my website for design templates. This would include website templates and Canva logo templates. I have more ideas than time to expand that but I have enjoyed creating these items.

I think one of the most exciting things about my work is when people get so enthusiastic about seeing their brand come to life. Usually, they are starting a new business or rebranding an older one. It is something they have been thinking about for a while and finally have taken the step to get it started. I have been told over and over again that I have been able to”Get” them and nail their brand. I think my intuition comes into play with the work I do and lends a hand to figuring out how they want to be perceived online.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Listening to my inner guidance. Most of the business tips have popped into my head while immersed in something like bike riding, cooking, walking…and it is usually good advice!

2. Always wanting to learn new technology and techniques. There are many designers whose work I love and get inspired by, some famous, some I found online. I am also eager to learn new technology so my skillset keeps up with the times.

3. I know a lot about the holistic field through the clients I have worked with and my curiosity. When I am chosen for a project, it is as much as me knowing their field as well as a client liking my style and work.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I have read the book “Creating Money: Attracting Abundance” by Orin and Daben over and over again. When I was just starting and did not have many clients, I attribute the tips and techniques as well as philosophy to align with clients who would benefit from my work as well as vice versa.

There is a great meditation/visualization in this book to magnetize what you want. It could be anything, but I used it for my business. I still use it a couple of times a month and I highly recommend it to get into the zone of using the Law of Attraction for business success.
