Meet Heather Macias

We were lucky to catch up with Heather Macias recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Heather, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Gaining confidence and self esteem is still something I find myself working on a lot and I feel a lot of us are. It’s just really nice knowing that I am great at what I do just from the growth of my business the past 2 years and the 12 years of being a massage therapist puts that confidence right there. I am now not as afraid to say “I am an amazing massage therapist and great at what I do”.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Heather, and I have been a certified massage therapist since 2012 and what a road it has been to get to where I am today. I opened my own small business August of 2022 and it’s been the best decision I have made along with creating my work space/room into a safe, calming and beautiful environment. My business name is in honor of my late mother who was always my best friend, supporter, mentor, and the one who said I can do anything and always so proud of me. She helped me get started in massage school and has always received the work she deserved. After she passed in 2021 i did feel lost for a while but her always being an amazing inspiration to me I knew I wanted to honor her in every way I could. The name Prairie Moon is a peonies flower in the peony family, symbolic of love, honor, happiness wealth, romance, and beauty, the peony is traditionally given on special occasions as an expression of goodwill, best wishes, and joy. My mom and I love peonies so the name first just right. Thank you mom.
My dualities of my work feel like such a long list but I can provide a very relaxing, stress relieving and calming massage while providing the deep tissue work if needed. Specialties include: Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular, Prenatal Massage, Cupping, Hot Stones, Energy Work, Oncology and so much more. My third most favorite service booked is Ashiatsu, this is new to most clients but it has become a very favorable one. Ashiatsu is a barefoot massage technique in which the therapist delivers deep, broad, consistent pressure while utilizing their feet and body weight. Working with gravity instead of against it, Ashiatsu therapists are able to provide an effective therapeutic massage without causing pain or discomfort to themselves or the receiving client. Deep tissue without discomfort, Frees up bundle nerves, elongating and detoxing muscle and improves posture and decrease pain.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back at the spas and other places I worked at before going in my own, I would say all the ups and downs were the learning experience I have taken throughout that time. Knowing what to and what not to do, I’ve had many bosses that showed the care and compassion I did and to still have such an amazing connection even past and they are so proud of me shows they were supposed to part of my path and journey. I thank Kathy my first boss at a spa for showing me that love and care and that warm welcoming feeling whenever I step through those doors for a quick visit.Being kind and caring and communicating well with clients always showed how that can make a business run well. A clean and presentable space as well, I’m a neat freak so that’s good.
My quality and skills definitely come from continuing my education throughout the years even after getting my license, I love learning new things and when they can help improve my skills and grow my business I am more then happy to learn.
I would say to those starting out to ask for help when needed, especially those close to you who have given you great guidance and advice. Ask questions to those who have started small businesses as well, we are all still learning even if they have been open for way longer.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

I feel like I could name so many friends and other people that I worked with or work in the same building as me but really I have to say my husband. My husband has been the support I truly care about, he has his own business for such a long time and him having all that knowledge and experience has helped me is so many ways. Starting my business, claiming my business name, pricing, setting boundaries and so much more. He’s lucky because he is always willing to be the test body for new ideas, new techniques, new products and so much more. Having that support from a loved one can have such an amazing impact on life and whatever it is you may be going through but I thank him being with me on this journey and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
