Meet Heather Moody

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Heather Moody. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Heather, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

Along with running Sage Travel, my boutique travel agency, I’m also a writer. Both roles require me to think creatively and to remain inspired and diligent throughout the entire project. Each morning, I make space for what I’ve termed my 3 Ms: Movement, Meditation, and Morning Pages. The latter is pulled from The Artist’s Way, which I’m sure you are familiar with. If not, stop listening to me and pick up that workbook! But if I can manage all three before the day begins, that can toggle my brain into creativity mode and the writing exercise might turn into something more substantial. I also keep my creativity alive by keeping my sense of wonder alive…visiting new places, learning how others create, and making sure I’m viewing or reading someone else’s creative works on a weekly basis.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I created Sage Travel three years ago, though I’ve been in the luxury hospitality space for almost two decades. My aim is to support those clients seeking immersive travel with private experiences. Your time is sacred; I’m here to shoulder the bulk of research and itinerary curation, and be your fiercest advocate no matter where you’re traveling. I’ve planned some ambitious trips (a South Pacific air safari is a favorite) but I still get excited with every initial planning call. I’m also thrilled to share that Sage’s Concierge Collective is growing. This is an annual membership for those who travel extensively and includes lifestyle support…anything we’d arrange for you out of town is possible at home!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think having a genuine sense of curiosity, being nimble and open to change, and a love of research have all led me to where I am today. As we expand our reliance on technology in the global marketplace, I feel these “soft skills” will be sought out. My advice would be to practice curiosity and flexibility in your daily interactions. As a “connector” I’ve seen firsthand how showing interest and asking thoughtful questions will deepen a relationship, possibly leading to opportunities down the line.

How would you describe your ideal client?

I’ve been fortunate that some of the most interesting, creative, and adventurous clients have found their way to me. An ideal client is one that isn’t simply checking off a country, they’re investing time to connect and learn about the local culture. If you like vibey, design-forward hotels, are a little adventurous, love a wellness escape, but are also into culinary and wine tours, let’s chat!
