Meet Heather Mulhollan

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Heather Mulhollan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Heather below.

Heather, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

The journey to finding my purpose has been a long and windy road. As a child, I always had a love and appreciation for animals. I never looked at them as being any different from myself. I always saw them as souls in a different body. We always had pets growing up who I always considered to be my best friends and I was constantly bringing home baby squirrels, baby birds, stray cats, and stray dogs. I would even get into fights with other kids who used to kill lighting bugs and smear their neon glow all over the sidewalks. I would get so mad that they were killing these innocent beautiful creatures. In fact, my empathy towards animals got so bad that my mother had to stop taking me to the grocery store with her as I would have a complete meltdown anytime we walked past the lobster tank becuase I wanted her to buy all the lobsters so we could set them free in the ocean. My love for animals continued to grow to where I had dreams and aspriations of becoming a veterinarian, zoologist, or marine biologist. However, when I was a teenager my life got turned upside down and I experienced traumatic events that changed my whole perception on life. I spiraled out of control for a couple of years to where I even attempted to take my own life at 16. Luckily I was unsucessful in my attempt and got a second chance at life. I discovered my love for music and decided to take a chance at a music career. I was very blessed to perform at some very cool places, work with some amazing musicians, and travel all up and down the east coast performing and getting paid for it, however, I never truly felt fulfilled. I “retired” from performing when I got married as I wanted to settle down and have a family, however, God had other plans. Early into our marriage we discovered that we were not going to be able to have children. This news absolutely devastated me and I fell into a deep depression. The next couple of years I delved into my spirituality and tried to figure out what my purpose was. I really struggled knowing that I wasn’t meant to be a mother and needed to find my place on this earth. My love for animals had never gone away and all throughout my music career and into my adult life I always had animals in my life but never thought that my purpose would have to do with them. As I delved further into my spirituality and began taking spiritual courses and learning Reiki, my empathy and love for animals continued to grow. Everywhere I went animals would follow. It got to the point where they were literally in my face as if they were telling me “your purpose is to help us”. During this time I had a psychic reading where my purpose became evidently clear. The psychic saw me doing Reiki on animals and saw me surrounded by all kinds of animals, species of animals that shouldn’t even be together like wild animals and domestic animals. She told me that I even though I wasn’t meant to bear children in this lifetime, that I was still going to be a mother. I was going to be a mother to so many animals that needed me. After that reading I knew I wanted to work with animals and help them, but didn’t quite know how to go about it or what exactly to do. This led me into getting certified in Animal Reiki. Then after I got that certification it was like all these doors were opening up which led me to so many different things. I became certified in animal massage therapy, developed my psychic abilities and became an animal communicator, took wildlife conservation courses and became a wildlife conservationist specializing in Monarch butterflies, got my permit from the Pennsylvania Game Commission to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife, joined an amazing organization called Wildlife In Need where I get to help wild animals and work with wildlife rehabilitators from all over the state and the doors just keep on opening. Every animal that I am able to help brings me an untold joy I can’t even begin to put into words. I know I have finally found my purpose in life.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I feel like I wear so many hats and do so many things that I try to incorporate as many of my passions as I can into my business Fairhaven Healing. I am a Usui Reiki Master, as well as an Animal Reiki Master/Teacher and offer Reiki and other energy healing services to both people and animals. I am also a licensed canine and feline massage therapist. I discovered a couple years ago that I am a psychic/medium and use my gifts to not only help people connect to their loved ones in the spirit world, but also to help them connect to the animals in their life in a deeper and more meaningful way. I also stared a Monarch Butterfly conservation program where I raise and release Monarchs back into the wild to help with their decreasing numbers. In addition to raising these insects, I also teach classes about them all across the state. A special part of my conservation project is I name every Monarch I release in honor of someone who has passed. People are able to submit names of loved ones they would like to honor through my website. Once a Monarch emerges I randomly pick a name that gets assigned to this butterfly and then I take photos and videos of the butterflies release and send it to the family. It is a beautiful way to honor your loved ones and you are helping an endangered species as well.

Additionally, I am a certified capture and transport permit holder through the Pennsylvania Game Commission and go out into the field rescuing injured and orphaned wildlife throughout the state of Pennsylvania. I am also a volunteer with Wildlife In Need which is an incredible organization that helps wildlife.

I also still dabble in music and perform on occasion.

I have so many new projects in the works that I am very excited about, but I’m not quite ready to announce them yet. All I will say is that Fairhaven Healing is going to be evolving significantly over the next year as my vision for it keeps changing and expanding.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I feel my three most important qualities are empathy, my sense of humor, and my heart. I truly feel that my heart is my strength. I know some people would disagree and think that wearing your heart on your shoulder is a show of weakness and will only lead you to getting hurt, but I find it to be a sign of strength and it has helped me connect with people and animals in a very special and profound way. I still get hurt, that’s a part of life, but I continue to put my heart out there for all to see.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Professionally, the biggest improvement I’ve seen is the range of services I am able to offer and seeing how my business is evolving. My business has grown quite exponentially over the last 12 months and I am so excited to see what else comes my way.
Personally, I feel that I have grown as a person over these last 12 months. I am becoming more confident in who I am and who I want to be instead of trying to be what everyone else expects me to be and that has been so liberating! The other big improvement I’ve made to my life recently is stepping away from toxic family and friends. Cutting these people off from my life has been one of the best things I could’ve done for my mental health. I can’t stress enough that just because someone is family, it does not give them the right to treat you horribly and hurt you. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and support you, people that make you feel better just by being in their presence. Those are your people and when you find them, your life will never be the same.
