My confidence and self-esteem have been built through discipline, consistency, and a deep commitment to the process—much like the philosophy in the book “Chop Wood, Carry Water.” I’ve learned that success isn’t about grand moments but about doing the small, often unseen tasks day after day, even when you don’t feel like it.

As a business owner of Pumpkin Porch Fairy, that mindset has been essential. Running a first-of-its-kind concierge pumpkin design and delivery service along the Wasatch Front takes organization, persistence, and showing up—especially on the hard days. There are mornings when the workload feels overwhelming, or the weather isn’t cooperating, but the discipline of sticking to a daily process—planning logistics, tracking orders, prepping materials—builds not just a strong business but also a stronger sense of self-belief.

For me, confidence comes from doing the work when no one is watching. It’s in showing up on the days you don’t want to, staying organized so that every customer has a magical experience, and trusting that each small, consistent effort adds up to something much greater. That’s what has allowed Pumpkin Porch Fairy to grow and become a beloved fall tradition for so many families.

I’m the owner and creator of Pumpkin Porch Fairy, the first-of-its-kind concierge pumpkin design and delivery service along the Wasatch Front. We transform porches into magical fall displays, making it easy for families, businesses, and anyone who loves autumn to celebrate in style. Our signature approach—DELIVER, DESIGN, DISPOSE, and DONATE—means we not only create beautiful, turnkey porch setups, but we also give back, donating many of the pumpkins at the end of the season for community use.

What makes Pumpkin Porch Fairy so special is the joy and connection it creates as we enter into the Fall Festive Season. Seeing kids’ faces light up when they see their transformed porch or hearing from families who now consider this a fall tradition is what drives me every day.

My background in healthcare administration and marketing has been a huge asset in building and running this business. Years of experience in managing operations, streamlining logistics, and creating strategic marketing campaigns have allowed me to execute this service with precision—from organizing deliveries and scheduling to building strong brand awareness and media relationships. This attention to detail and focus on customer experience is why we’ve been able to grow quickly and establish trust with our clients.

We were recently featured on Fox 13’s “The Place, which helped share our story with an even larger audience, and the response has been incredible. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that have been the most impactful in my journey are showing up consistently, building genuine relationships, and communicating—especially when it’s not easy.

The first is the discipline of always showing up, which ties directly to the “Chop Wood, Carry Water” mantra. Success, whether in business or life, is built in the daily, sometimes mundane, tasks. It’s about doing the work even when you don’t feel like it. For me, running Pumpkin Porch Fairy—a first-of-its-kind concierge pumpkin design and delivery service along the Wasatch Front—requires logistics, planning, and execution every single day, long before the pumpkins ever hit a porch. My advice? Start small, but be consistent. Master the daily process, because discipline builds confidence, and confidence builds results.

The second is being great with people and building lasting relationships. From my background in healthcare administration and marketing to running a seasonal business, I’ve learned that relationships are everything. Happy customers become repeat customers, and genuine connections lead to word-of-mouth growth that no paid ad can replicate. My advice? Focus on listening first. People remember how you make them feel, not just what you deliver.

And finally, communication—especially when it’s not good news—is a non-negotiable. In business, things don’t always go perfectly, but staying in communication builds trust and credibility. Whether it’s adjusting timelines, managing customer expectations, or navigating challenges, transparent and proactive communication is a hallmark of great business acumen. My advice? Over-communicate rather than under-communicate. People respect honesty far more than silence.

When you combine these three qualities—discipline, relationships, and communication—you not only build a stronger business, but you also build the kind of reputation that keeps people coming back.

One book that has profoundly influenced my personal and professional development is “Chop Wood, Carry Water” by Joshua Medcalf. The core lesson of the book—that greatness comes from committing to the process and mastering the mundane—has shaped how I approach every aspect of my life and career.
As a scholarship NCAA D1 athlete for the University of Utah Alpine Ski Team, I learned early that discipline and consistency—not just talent—are what separate good from great. That same mindset carried into my career, especially in my role as Sr. Director of Marketing with Athletic Republic, where I helped lead franchise locations to record-breaking success.
Because of that daily commitment to improvement, we achieved remarkable results:

2023 Franchise of the Year—selected out of more than 800,000 franchise locations
