We were lucky to catch up with Heather Willm recently and have shared our conversation below.
Heather, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.
For us, avoiding burnout really comes down to balance and perspective. Being a husband-and-wife team means we’re in this together, both the beautiful chaos and the quiet moments in between. We’ve learned to recognize each other’s limits, communicate openly, and step in when one of us needs to breathe.
We also make sure to protect our creativity by giving ourselves space outside of weddings: traveling with our son, exploring new places, or simply enjoying a weekend with no camera in hand. Those moments recharge us and remind us why we love what we do.
Most importantly, we’ve built Willmus Weddings around a rhythm that feels human. We only take on a limited number of weddings each year so every couple gets our full energy and attention. That intentional pace keeps us passionate, inspired, and genuinely excited for every celebration we’re part of.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Willmus Weddings, we plan, design, and capture weddings together. Heather leads the planning and design side, while Christophe handles photography and videography. It’s truly a creative partnership, where storytelling and logistics meet emotion and artistry. Our couples love that everything feels cohesive, from the flow of the day to the way it’s documented because it’s all handled by one team that shares the same vision.
What excites us most is the human side of it all. Every wedding tells a new story, every couple brings their own energy, and no two celebrations ever feel the same. We’re constantly inspired by the trust couples place in us, letting us transform their ideas into something meaningful, elegant, and unforgettable.
This year has also been particularly exciting for us. We’ve been refining our brand with a more modern and elevated identity, expanding our creative services, and preparing to bring Willmus Weddings to France during the summer months. Our goal is to help couples (especially those from the U.S.) experience the magic of destination weddings in Provence, Paris, Bordeaux, and the French Riviera, all with the same personal, husband-and-wife approach, French touch and a tailored American clients experience that defines who we are.
At the end of the day, Willmus Weddings isn’t just a company, it’s the story of two people who love love, and who believe that every wedding deserves to be planned with heart and captured with soul.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three things have made all the difference for us: empathy, adaptability, and creative consistency.
Empathy is at the heart of everything we do. Planning and capturing weddings means stepping into one of the most emotional days of someone’s life. Understanding our couples, their families, their priorities, their personalities allows us to create experiences that feel deeply personal. Our advice: listen more than you speak. The best ideas come from paying attention to what truly matters to your clients.
Adaptability has also been essential. Every wedding is a live production, weather shifts, timelines move, emotions run high and your ability to stay calm and creative under pressure is what defines you. We’ve learned to see challenges as opportunities to shine. For anyone starting out, embrace change instead of resisting it. It’s often where your best growth happens.
And finally, creative consistency, staying true to your aesthetic and values, even as you evolve. Over the years, we’ve refined our signature style and our “She Plans, He Captures” approach into something that feels timeless yet current.
The advice here is simple: experiment freely, but always come back to what feels authentically you. That’s what builds a lasting brand and a loyal community.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely! Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. As we expand Willmus Weddings into France, we’re looking to connect with like-minded venues and creative partners who share our passion for refined, heartfelt celebrations.
We’re especially interested in partnering with boutique venues and estates in regions like Provence, Bordeaux, Paris, and the French Riviera, as well as curated French vendors, from floral designers and chefs to exclusive venues, stylists, and live musicians who value artistry, authenticity, and exceptional service. Our goal is to build a trusted network that allows couples from the U.S. to experience France not just as a destination, but as a beautifully orchestrated experience where every detail feels intentional.
We love working with teams who see weddings the way we do, as a balance of elegance and emotion, storytelling and logistics, creativity and precision. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
