Meet Hector Quintanilla

We were lucky to catch up with Hector Quintanilla recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hector, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

Self-discipline can mean a lot of things but where it comes from is simple, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My personal ways of self-discipline are talking to God everyday, following his commandments one day at a time, repenting if I fall short, play guitar as frequently as I can, creating new clothing designs/collections, working out 4-5 times a week, cooking 3-4 healthy/natural food meals daily, going to work as much as I can, keeping up a good hygiene, dressing well, and just a whole bunch of character building while in the process.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m a Fashion Designer/Owner of Vivid Vision and a solo guitarist. I find this mix very special because these are both gifts that God has allowed me to have that show off creativity at its finest. I laugh and can’t stop smiling a lot of the times because weather its something new on the guitar or a new clothing design it always comes out like the idea that was planted in my mind if not better. Vivid Vision is a luxury brand that grows as I grow so the style of it changes as I change. I use artistic inspirations and techniques based on what’s going on in my personal life. This brand isn’t just clothes it’s a showcase of what God has done, is doing, and will continue to do for me in my life. The latest collection I’ve put out was the “House Of Rock” that used a lot of inspiration from the 80’s rock n’ roll scene. It was fun making that collection because I was able to combine my other gift, which is guitar by playing an original guitar solo that I came up with in a recording studio. Overall I enjoy very much of what God allows me to do because he didn’t have to give me these gifts & talents.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Honestly just follow Christ and everything will fall in place. I had a lot of ups and downs but that’s because I kept trying to do it myself and that’s pride. Once I took my hands off the steering wheel and gave it all to God, that’s where I developed self-discipline, peace, patience, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. You will improve naturally once you do this but it is a battle you will have to be willing to fight. Because the hold that the world has is strong but you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

I would continue to live day by day and trust in the Lord as I do now.
