We were lucky to catch up with Heejai Park recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Heejai, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I think my work ethic is rooted in my fascination with the intersection of human creativity and technology. Digital design, especially when it involves AI and generative systems, requires both precision and imagination—a combination that pushes me to approach every project with intention and curiosity. I’m driven by the challenge of finding balance: using technology to enhance creativity while ensuring that the work retains a human touch, emotional depth, and a strong narrative.
What fuels my ethic is the belief that technology is a tool, not the solution itself. It’s how we, as creators, use it that matters. This perspective motivates me to explore beyond the surface, to not settle for “good enough,” and to keep experimenting until I’ve achieved something that feels both innovative and meaningful. For me, it’s this ongoing pursuit of blending human intuition with the potential of technology that drives the effort I put into every project
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a graphic designer focused on blending creativity and technology to create meaningful and impactful work. My passion lies in exploring how tools like generative design, creative coding, and branding can come together to tell compelling stories and push the boundaries of what’s possible in design. My approach is rooted in finding harmony between technical precision and emotional resonance, ensuring my work feels innovative while still connecting with people on a human level.
What excites me most about what I do is the opportunity to create designs that inspire curiosity and open new possibilities. For example, I recently worked on a project called “Gray Area,” which uses real-time weather data to create dynamic typography. This project not only explored the intersection of data and creativity but also highlighted how design can make abstract information engaging and visually meaningful.
Beyond the work itself, I’m passionate about using design to spark conversations and connect with audiences in new ways. Whether it’s through a generative system or a visual identity, I want my designs to feel purposeful and forward-thinking, bridging the gap between art, technology, and culture. For me, the most rewarding part of what I do is seeing how design can shape perspectives and create meaningful experiences
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three key qualities that shaped my journey are interdisciplinary thinking, adaptability, and curiosity. Interdisciplinary thinking helped me combine influences from fine arts, technology, and cultural studies to create unique and meaningful designs. For those starting out, I recommend exploring areas beyond your core field to expand your perspective.
Adaptability allowed me to embrace challenges, from transitioning into graphic design to experimenting with new tools and techniques. Staying open to change and trying things outside your comfort zone will help you grow in unexpected ways.
Lastly, curiosity has been my biggest motivator. Always asking questions and exploring new ideas keeps your work fresh and innovative. Together, these qualities help you approach design as a process of constant discovery and evolution
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been learning how to approach design with a more intentional balance between exploration and refinement. I’ve challenged myself to experiment boldly, whether it’s through generative design or conceptual projects, while also honing my ability to distill ideas into clear, impactful solutions.
One turning point was working on branding and interactive systems, where I learned to let go of the need for immediate perfection and instead trust the iterative process. This shift has not only improved my creative confidence but also taught me how to produce work that’s both innovative and thoughtfully executed.
The past year has reinforced the value of being curious and adaptable—two qualities that have helped me approach design as a constantly evolving craft, ready to embrace both challenges and possibilities.
