Meet Heidi Bannon

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Heidi Bannon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Heidi, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout

I can get a sense when my fuel tank is getting empty because I start to lack motivation… like, I’ll do it tomorrow… and then that can turn into days and weeks. Most of my art is visual, so I turn to journaling or writing screen plays that may never be seen by another set of eyes. It’s a way to keep my brain busy AND creative. When I am ready to get back to my normal art world, I still give myself grace because I have continued my creative process, just in a different medium.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My artistic focus has primarily been visual, photo, painting, mixed media. My instagram got burned in the fires of Mordor, so essentially starting over on Social Media has been a challenge, but I found that I’m not spending as much time building that media back up because I would rather spend that time doing art. The socials are important, but not my main focus. It will come back organically, just as it was built the first time around.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Composition is probably the easiest thing to learn, but the hardest to master. Your point of interest may not be interesting to someone else, but if you compose it correctly, anyone can appreciate the flow of the work. Take multiple shots of the same object from multiple angles, different areas of the space and lighting. Play with depth of field and focus. Change your own perspective. Study different mediums of art and decide what the focal point is, and what would you do differently to make it more appealing

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I would love to collaborate with someone that does clothing or bags/purses. You can put images on anything now. I have recently discovered some glass sculptors that have literally blown me away with their creativity and innovation.
