We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Heidi Forward-kraft a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Heidi, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I think I have been looking for my “purpose” my whole life. As a girl, I always wondered “what I would be when I grew up” and “what was God’s plan for me”?
Going through hard times in my life gave me a lot of opportunities to rely on God and my faith to get me through.
I feel like each season or chapter of my life taught me the lessons that I needed that have led me to my purpose.
Once I stepped outside of my comfort zone and started sharing my story with other women, I realized that I had been living my purpose all along. Each was a piece of the big picture purpose that I am living out now.
Each step I take in helping other women develop their faith and their belief in themselves, just validates that I am doing what I have been called to do.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the Commissioner in Colorado Springs for the non-profit Fueled By Faith. We pour into female Christian leaders and empower, equip, and encourage them in their walk with God, through bi-monthly meetups and an annual conference. We offer community, hope, and support for women in all walks of life.
My personal brand is called Guided By Faith. I encourage moms to rediscover themselves, and become who God created them to be. I guide them through establishing daily habits so that they can become their best self and focus on their relationship with God and their children. Much like Fueled By Faith, I support and encourage them through community and private mentoring, teaching them how to let their faith guide their lives.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I think the three most impactful things that I discovered on my journey were relying on my faith to get me through hard times. allowing myself to be in community with others that had gone through similar experiences, and always focusing on the positive and gratitude.
My advice for others that are early in their journey would be to always have faith in God and in yourself, don’t let other people steal your joy, and you are responsible for making yourself happy.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of growth and improvement the past 12 months has been recognizing that I am doing what I have been called to do and then having the courage to step into that calling. Accepting challenges as an opportunity for growth and as a part of my journey has been critical in my ability to say yes to opportunities to help others.
