Meet Heidi Harger

We recently connected with Heidi Harger and have shared our conversation below.

Heidi, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I am not sure I have overcome imposter syndrome. I but certainly won’t let it win. It is a daily fight. I put my best foot forward to feel productive and to feel that I am working towards my goals. I am running a marathon not a sprint. So I will continue to work towards my goals and that right there will keep thoughts of being an imposter away.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an actor. I graduated from Hofstra University in 1997 with a BA in drama and minors in dance and geography. I went back to school ten years later for nursing. I have worked as a nurse in nursing homes and in psychiatric nursing since 2011. This past Spring, I played the lead role in a NYU thesis film called Mix Matched Socks by Nicolette Page. I had a wonderful time doing so. I am working on my acting monologues daily. I continue to submit to projects in theater and film. Someday I hope to have an agent.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think the skills of staying open minded, fighting for positive outcomes, and staying disciplined to lead a healthy lifestyle helped me the most. I think sometimes with any of these skills you have to go day by day. Don’t give up on yourself. Practice pacing yourself and growing in these skills a little each day.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

Despite accomplishments in two careers I would say that I struggle with regrets now and then. This is a bit new. There are things I would have done differently…different paths I would have tried if I had the wisdom that I have now. But hindsight is 20/20 and I keep reminding myself to focus on this day and the choices at hand. I also remind myself that there is always a silver lining to any decision. Try to meditate on that silver lining now and then.
