Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Heidi Taylor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Heidi, thank you so much for making time for us today. We’re excited to discuss a handful of topics with you, but perhaps the most important one is around decision making. The ability to make decisions is a key requirement for anyone who wants to make a difference and so we’d love to hear about how you developed your decision-making skills.
The way I developed my decision-making skills was by being raised as an only child. I had no one to run my ideas by aside from my mom and my dad. I had to learn to live with the choices I made at a very early age in life. That meant if I made the wrong choice I would have to live with it and move onto the next. If I didn’t like the outcome, oh well, that’s on me. I had no one to blame but myself. So I had to become analytical about everything to make the right choice the first time.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m a lash artist, not a lash tech. I create beautiful sets of lash extensions to enhance natural beauty. I want to make sure any client that comes in feeling blue, leaves feeling like they’re unstoppable. The atmosphere here is unlike any other so I’ve been told. It’s welcoming, warm, and just a sense of peace flows over people when they walk in the studio. That being said, I am planning on expanding and adding more services and service providers to the team. I have one girl who is actually on my booking site and two that are not but have their own booking site. The girl on my site offers facials and she has some great products on hand. We work fairly well together and I can’t wait to add more to our duo.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Communication. Comprehension. Compassion. I suggest getting these areas down and moving. You have to communicate with clients about expectations but you also have to make sure they comprehend what is expected of them and what they expect of you. Compassion comes into play too because we are all human. We make mistakes but we shouldn’t hold it against someone and sometimes we do have to show heart in this business.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful things my parents ever did was let me fail but keep cheering me on in whatever endeavor it was at the time. They knew that if I failed I would learn. I did just that too. I’m still failing and still learning. I try to instill that into my own son now. Granted he’s 2.5 but better start now than later. If anything I don’t even know if I’ve failed anything or just found a way not to do something; especially if I learned a lesson.
