Hi Helen, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
It has been a 12-year self-discovery, self-healing, self-acceptance, self-love, self-expression and self-trust process to find my purpose and keep sharing my soul’s gifts: joy, beauty, and wisdom through my business Helen Creates Beauty. It is a journey of knowing, accepting, and loving myself deeply. It is not a destination. So it is okay to start this journey at anytime and let go of the attachment of the outcome.
Most of us at some point in our lives will ask these three questions: Who am I? Why am I here? How can I be happy? These are the fundamental questions we should ask especially as small business owners to build a sustainable long-term business not only supports us financially but also a purposeful lifestyle.
In 2010, I asked these questions after a psychiatric ER visit due to severe anxiety and depression. At the time, I was a Ph.D. student with seven academic publications, on course to become a professor. I was engaged to my husband and our wedding was approaching. Everything seemed perfect. But I wasn’t happy. All my life, I had worked hard to achieve what society and my family wanted for me: a high-paying, stable job, a nice husband, and a family. As I closed in on these goals, instead of a sense of fulfillment I felt lost and confused.
My wake-up call led me on a journey of deep spiritual self-discovery and self-healing. As a “professional” student of spiritual wisdom for over a decade, I became an aura reader, certified yoga and meditation teacher, Ayurveda practitioner, Vedic astrologer, certified crystal healer, Theta healer, and angelic channeler. I repaired lost connections with my father, who was a second-generation Fengshui master and traditional Chinese painter and calligrapher, and am now a third-generation Fengshui master and professional intuitive painter. You need to take daily small actions to figure out what’s truly in alignment with your soul.
I’ve come to realize that our souls are all here to evolve. From our souls’ perspective, we are here to grow: be it by pushing our comfort zone to embody our Soul Gifts and shine our lights to elevate the world, or by healing our deep Soul Wounds to clear out all the traumas from our ancestral lineage or Karmic patterns, or by learning our Soul Lessons to accept whom we are and surrender the control by letting it be what is. Through this process, we know ourselves deeply. Like Lao-Tzu once said, “knowing others is wise, knowing yourself is enlightenment”.
The side benefit of this process is that you will eventually become a radiant magnet attracting the right people, and the right circumstances at the right time to manifest whatever that’s in alignment with your soul. This is the Law of Attraction. You work on yourself and your deep understanding of yourself makes building your business, finding the right people to work with, and attracting the right conditions effortlessly. Life just flows.
I’ve been called to share this wisdom and write it in a book since last year in 2022. I have developed a system called the Aura Color Wheel. It consists of 36 Soul Aura Colors and each color says your Soul Gifts, Soul Wounds, and Soul Lessons. Your aura color is a 3-dimensional egg-shaped electromagnetic energy field around your body. Energy is information that vibrates. Everyone’s energy is vibrating in different amplitude and frequencies, thus corresponding with different color waves or aura colors surrounding us. It is comparable to the 12 Zodiac sign system, each sign tells something about your personality.

I am a third-generation Fengshui master. I grew up in China and lived and breathed this environmental energy healing method with my father and grandmother. Prior to becoming a professional artist and certified crystal healer, I was a certified interior architect and worked as a Fengshui Interior Designer and custom surface pattern designer. I have created beautiful and harmonious homes to attract good energy flow for many clients over a decade.
I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology and was a clinical therapist. I have a master’s degree in Interior Architecture and a Ph.D. degree in Experience Design. I am a certified crystal healer, angel channeler, sound healer, Reiki practitioner, Yoga Alliance certified Yoga and meditation teacher, Vedic Astrologer, and Ayurveda practitioner.
My holistic healing approach targets the five layers of our bodies: 1. The Extended body–the living environment using Fengshui knowledge. 2. The Physical body–the material body we see using Ayurveda (herbal tea and diet) and Yoga poses (movement) recommendations based on your body type and the season. 3. The Energetic body–use Reiki, sound, and crystal healing to move stagnant energy. 4. The Subtle body–our mental patterns, thoughts, and emotions. Theta meditation reprograms your subconscious beliefs and removes limiting beliefs. 5. The Causal body–our spiritual consciousness. Angelic channeling techniques will be used to perform Cord Cutting, Past Life Healing, Clearing Karmic Ties, and Soul Contracts. Guided meditation audios are provided to target subtle and causal bodies. The healing goal is to create a healthy lifestyle for continuous self-healing.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Clarity: know what you really want.
It is critical for you to know what you really want in life and how your business fits into the overall picture. I love using meditation and connecting with my spirit guides to gain a clear vision for my business direction. Once you have a sense of higher purpose, it makes setting and achieving your goals as well as making decisions eaiser.
2. Courage: take action toward what you want.
Knowing what you really want is the first step, taking action toward it is when the manifestation becomes real. Don’t be afraid of Nos, rejections, or so-called “failures” (because in the long run, those are not failures at all, they might just be the universe’s way to correct your path). Take action courageously and be your advocate. If you know what you want and you are good at what you do, you deserve to be seen and share your gifts! Sometimes it only takes that 5 minutes of courage for you to take the next big leap!
3. Resilience: persistent efforts towards your goals.
Patience is one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in building my business. On average, for a small business in my industry, it takes an average of three years to really see a return on investment. That’s why you need to choose what you are passionate about to work on instead of what you think might make money at the time. All instant success you see on social media really takes ten years of daily effort. Have faith in what you do but also let go of the attachment to the outcome. I always pray for this or something even better to come ture. It is not about just the money you are going to make. It is about the life you want to lead. This might take some experimentation and course correcting along the way. Embrace the growth and change and you will eventually get there. My business went from just providing Fengshui interior design to offering art and Fengshui interior design, to now incorporating art, Fengshui, holistic healing, and spiritual teaching. Your business grows with you.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
For the past 12 months, my decades of art and spiritual work have developed into a system. I named it The Aura Color Wheel: What Your Aura Color Says About Your Soul Gifts, Wounds, and Lessons.
This proprietary, self-discovery system offers the reader a blueprint to discover their soul’s purpose. It combines a decade of my spiritual work as an aura reader, intuitive painter, angel channeler, certified crystal healer, third-generation Fengshui master, and spiritual teacher.
