Meet Hélène Cardona

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hélène Cardona. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hélène below.

Hi Hélène, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Most of all, form my sense of purpose and belief in myself. I’ve learned to face, time and again, challenging situations. Moving away from toxic environments and relationships is empowering. I’ve moved so much in my life, I’ve learned to be adaptable. I know what I’m meant to do. I’m an artist. I’m also a teacher. I want to touch people’s lives and have a positive impact. I’ve educated myself and developed skills, I’m optimistic, have a spiritual practice, and I’m constantly learning new things. We grow from our experiences, from overcoming difficulties and obstacles. They are gifts that force us outside of our comfort zone, make us stronger, and help us find new approaches.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My multicultural heritage set the stage for a life rich in linguistic and cultural diversity. I was raised across Europe, speak six languages, and hold citizenships from France, Spain, and the United States. I have a passion for storytelling, language, and human connection.
My diverse educational background started with studies spanning English Philology and Literature at Cambridge, Spanish Philology and Literature at the International Universities of Santander and Baeza in Spain, and German at the Goethe-Institut in Bremen, Germany. I received a Master’s Degree in American Literature (Henry James) from the Sorbonne.
My passion for acting led me to New York, where I graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and started working in theater.
I’ve built a career with roles in movies like Chocolat, The Hundred-Foot Journey, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Muppets Most Wanted, Happy Feet 2, Mumford, Serendipity, and in the series Upload, Heroes Reborn, and Law & Order.
I’m currently starring in the 2nd tale of the trilogy “Bedtime Stories: Tales of Love and Hate” (based on short stories by DH Lawrence, Guy de Maupassant, and Edgar Allan Poe), directed by Monica Tidwell and produced by John Davenport, now on Amazon Prime, and won Best Supporting actress at the Vegas Movie Awards as Detective Jones in the crime thriller The Dead Woman, directed by Dianna Ippolito. And I won four Best Acting Awards including Best Actress at the Idyllwild International Film Festival for playing Arlette in the independent feature Caralique, with the wonderful Kali Funston also winning Best Child Actor.
Recent voice work includes Emily in Paris, Sugar, Lift, The New Look, and All the Light You Cannot See.
A few months ago, I had a ton of fun recording a fantastic role in a fabulous video game, whose name I can’t reveal yet.
Just now, I enjoyed judging the 2024 Voice Arts Awards, and I’m currently on the jury of the 25th Polish Film Festival Los Angeles.
I also love working with dreams, writing – I’ve published seven books, in the US and Europe – and helping produce movies.
I’m interested in the interplay between art, language, and the human psyche. Art is both a form of self-expression and a means of healing. It’s a transformative process, a way to transmute pain and experience into beauty. It offers a transcendental experience that allows everyone to see themselves reflected in the stories we tell.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Training, Perseverance (resilience in the face of adversity), and Adaptability.
To this I would add working on myself, getting to know myself better, wanting to know what’s inside me, and opening up, as well as mindfulness. And a strong work ethic.
Having traveled extensively has broadened my horizons and enriched my perspective.
Another important thing is a healthy mind in a healthy body. I’ve always loved sports and keep a yoga and meditation practice.
My advice is to keep training. It doesn’t matter how far you are in your career you always go back to the barre. Also, keep learning something new, develop new skills. Embrace what makes you unique. Live a rich, fulfilling life by cultivating a wide range of interests.
Know that you’re here on Earth for a purpose and that every challenge is an opportunity for growth and self-improvement.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Absolutely, I am always looking for opportunities to partner and collaborate with passionate, creative individuals and organizations in the film industry. I am particularly interested in collaborating with directors, producers, writers, and fellow actors who share a commitment to creating compelling, thought-provoking content that resonates with diverse audiences.
I’m eager to work with those who value multicultural perspectives and aim to explore the depths of the human experience through storytelling. Whether it’s for film, television, books, or other multimedia projects, I believe in the transformative power of art and seek collaborators who are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of our understanding and expression.
If you’re interested in collaborating, I’d love to hear from you. You can connect with me through my website: helenecardona.com or my IG: @helenecardonamagic
