We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hennelie Hawes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hennelie below.
Hennelie, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
A big part of my confidence comes from my faith! Knowing that I was created in God’s image to be exactly who I am today, to look exactly how I look today, and knowing that in His eyes it is perfect is what gives me confidence from within. I hope to radiate His light into each room I am a part of and onto every person I meet in life. Being strong in my faith is what gives me the confidence and self-esteem I need in any situation – because I am never alone! God is always right there with me.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a current 3rd year medical student and model!
Medicine has always been a passion of mine and becoming a doctor has been my lifelong dream. I truly cannot wait to have patients of my own one day and build the kind of relationship that allows my patients to trust me with their healthcare! It is truly such a special career field and one that allows me to serve God’s people.
With modeling, the creativity that comes with it is my favorite part about it – from creating a vision board for a shoot to making it come to life. It takes a whole team of makeup artists, hair stylists, clothing stylists, and photographers to create a successful shoot and as a model, posing plays such a big role in the final outcome. Growing up dancing my entire life has really helped me find success in my modeling career and has played a big role in finding comfortability during a photoshoot when there lots of cameras at all angles, bright lights, and a whole audience of people watching. Flowing through movements almost like a dance has helped me create a unique style when it comes to shooting in front of a camera and has helped in capturing those in-between moments that really make for a great shot. I absolutely love modeling and the way it allows me to express myself and tune into my creative side!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
With modeling, self-confidence and adaptability are two very important qualities/skills to have. When in front of a camera, carrying out a vision or creating one as you go, thinking quick on your feet and adapting to your surroundings during a shoot is extremely important. Not every pose you create as a model will pick up well on camera and for that reason it is so important to be able to continuously adapt during a shoot. If one angle or pose is working – continue to play off of that in various ways. If something else is not working, it’s crucial to be able to bounce back from it and create something new. Additionally, having a good sense of self-confidence is critical for modeling as it allows you to continue adapting to your environment while on camera, instead of getting beaten down if something is continually not working. Not every shoot will be as successful as you’d like it to be from a modeling perspective, but learning to be okay with that is the key! Everyone has off days, or sometimes the various elements that play a part of a shoot don’t all come together quite as planned and that is ok – it’s all part of the job!
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking to work with new photographers/artists/stylists and brands! I recently just moved to Southwest Florida and am excited to begin creating connections in the area and beyond. If interested, creators can connect with me at the email listed on my website that highlights my modeling portfolio!
