Meet Henry Desouza Nelson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Henry Desouza Nelson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Henry Desouza, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?
I personally believe that the more you give the more you receive, also I grew up in an environment where generosity was standard practice

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I primarily went to school to study Graphic Design but I fell in love with photography and in the process I found filmmaking as well, I decided to focus more on film and photography, but growing up, music was my first love so i added that in the mix. I am currently a freelancer, but I have ties to non-profit organizations and media agencies. I love doing what I do because of how every art form is linked to each other and I like the fact that it’s a method of record keeping and also allows you to see progress from time to time. Currently developing ideas on short films and photo projects for festivals and exhibitions, there’s arkronym, a brand I am working on that makes different limited art for a period of time and early next year the plan is to release some music as well.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1.Willingness to learn and curiosity: try and make sense of everything ask questions

2. Self Expression: Bring your personality or perspective into your work

3.Collaborate: Find like minded individuals or groups that buy into your vision to elevate your work.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
I think every artist at some point in their lives face challenges and the most common one is definitely how to fund your ideas.
