Meet Herman Orphey

We recently connected with Herman Orphey and have shared our conversation below.

Herman , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Honestly, it wasn’t easy for me when I was younger. I struggled with both until someone told to look in mirror & say “Love You”. At the time I thought it was silly but it worked for me, cause for many years I let others put me down, which can definitely have an affect you, but when I really started to love myself & believe in myself, the self-esteem & confidence was a lot better for me & it showed.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Since I was five years old I knew that music was my destiny. At the age of 10, I went to a grammar school party and was drawn to the deejay booth and was totally hooked. After receiving my first turntables at the age of twelve and taught myself how to dj.

In 1989 (age 16), I auditioned for and was accepted as resident deejay to representing his High school on the station WKKC radio 89.3 fm (Chicago). Throughout my career I’ve graced the airwaves of different radio/internet station since WKKC, Smove.biz, & House Station Radio.com, & 98.5 The Wire(Orlando, Florida).

At the age of twenty-one (1995) I released his first two records under Dance Mania Records.

I moved to Atlanta, GA in 2002, later on met D.J. Mike Music. D.J. Mike Music helped him to realize his potential in deejaying. Embracing my new found potential my released (2004) a third album with Bumpin City Records, In 2010, after been in exile for 6 years, I hookup with Banging Groove Records, who decided to give him a chance in this new world of digital releases.

Now being mentor by Dj Funsko (Banging Groove Records), Sean Biddle (Bid Muzik Recording), Jon Waller (Nocturnal Recordings), Dj E-clyps (KleenHouse Music) & Many Other Labels. In 2012, I moved to Jacksonville, Fl. Linking up with Dj E-clyps owner of the labels KleenHouse Music & Blacklight Music, & took my music production to the next level when I was voted #80 in the Top 100 Jackin House Artists of 2014 On Traxsource.

On September 17th 2017, I Started my own label “House Of Rose” getting the label name from my mom “Rosa”(Rose For Short) who has been instrumental, inspiring & a motivator in his life. On July 28th 2018, I linked up with Dakiesha “Diamond” Threat & Created “RedDiamond Promotions”, the idea is to find location dj talent for house music events, as well as scouting for talented djs.

Helping others djs to discover their potential is the goal for RedDiamond Promotions. In the future seems endless as an artist & a DJ

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I would say I’m Ambitious, open-minded, & willing to learn to from mistakes. The best advice I can give to the folks that are new & coming up. Be persistent, never give up. If there’s someone willing to give you knowledge, listen & accept it! You may not understand it at the moment, but it will come in handy down the line. Be confident(non-arrogant), be determined(not stubborn), if you become a leader, be the leader(not a tyrant).

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

I would have to say my partner Dakiesha “Diamond” Threatt. She was there to show me & I can do more with my djing & producing, & she constantly trying to find gigs for me to push my career.
