Meet Hiba Tanvir

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hiba Tanvir. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hiba below.

Hiba , so great to have you sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our readers and so let’s jump right into one of our favorite topics – empathy. We think a lack of empathy is at the heart of so many issues the world is struggling with and so our hope is to contribute to an environment that fosters the development of empathy. Along those lines, we’d love to hear your thoughts around where your empathy comes from?
My empathy was nurtured by my mother who is one of the most compassionate people I know. To stay empathetic, we must stay engaged with the pain and suffering of those around us. Unless empathy is taken to the next stage of compassion, it runs the risk of becoming bitter or grief. I developed my empathy by finding causes that I could pour my energy, time and skills into to alleviate the suffering of people that were often forgotten about.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the founder of HT Compassion.

HT Compassion is dedicated to cultivating social-emotional learning within diverse educational settings, spanning both schools and homes. We believe that social-emotional learning is the cornerstone of a thriving and harmonious society. In a world where the pervasive sense of loneliness and anguish has become a global challenge, we understand the imperative to equip both the young and adults with the tools to navigate the intricate landscapes of their emotions. HT Compassion stands as a proactive response, a beacon that illuminates the path toward resilience, empathy, and a positive emotional foundation for individuals across generations.

In the realm of social impact, I provide tailored compassion training for non-profit organizations, ensuring volunteers remain dedicated to the mission of making a positive impact. This commitment to community extends to senior living homes, where I have introduced and taught an Emotional Well-Being class that has proven to be highly sought after and beneficial.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Compassion, gratitude and grit.

I’ve consistently been described as compassionate. I believe that the majority of world, societal and relationship problems stem from the lack of these 3 traits. Compassion is not the same as empathy. It is not just about understanding how another person is feeling. It’s about taking positive supportive actions to alleviate another’s suffering. It is this sense of compassion, gratitude and grit that inspired me to start Hope Kitchen, a home based catering business that allows struggling women to earn a living with dignity and to volunteer my time to teach a well being class to seniors.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Genuine connections and creation of safe spaces are not possible without collaboration. I’m always looking to collaborate with people, initiatives, communities that have an interest in being the best version of themselves. If you are a leader seeking better performance, it starts with how your team is “feeling”. If you are a parent seeking more connection with your children, you’ll need to know how they are “feeling” and understand your own ” feelings”.

As a social-emotional learning consultant with over 20 years of early childhood experience, I am passionate about developing programs for educational centers and parents that seamlessly integrate compassion, self-awareness, and self-regulation tools into children’s development.

The ideal collaborator would be someone that shares a vision and passion for excellence and recognizes the importance for compassion and emotional regulation skills in today’s world.
