We recently connected with Holliann Schrantz and have shared our conversation below.
Holliann , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
As a mom of two very young kids, it can be challenging to attend fun events or workout classes with my busy schedule. This inspires my event planning, as I love having an outlet for my creativity. I always strive to plan events that I would personally love to attend!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Holli, and I’ve been teaching yoga for seven years, feeling truly at home in my current path. About a year ago, I left my part-time job as a dental assistant of ten years to pursue my dream of opening a community yoga space.
We currently offer a wide variety of classes with highly skilled instructors whom I consider family. Myself, Cory Sampson, and Kaily Golba have been a team for the past six years. We all began teaching together when we launched our free summer yoga classes in Depew, NY, thanks to the Village of Depew. This program has united many yoga students in profound ways.
Making yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of financial constraints, has always been my primary focus, along with creating a welcome and safe environment.
One of my proudest achievements is our Yin Yoga Book Club, which started about two years ago. Combining my passions for reading and yoga, we incorporate local small businesses into the monthly book boxes that students receive before the program starts, which is the coolest part! I love working with and supporting small businesses.
In addition to teaching yoga, I am also involved in event planning and social media management. Over the past few years, I’ve planned large fitness events, hosting my largest event this past March at The Statler Buffalo. The event featured a day full of fitness classes, vendor shopping, self-care stations, and workshops, bringing together over 70 small businesses in Buffalo. Our next event is the Sunflower Yoga Festival in Sanborn, NY, on August 18th!
I look forward to watching my business grow and seeing where this journey takes me. The only way is up!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I believe my best quality is adaptability. When I first started teaching yoga, I moved from place to place, teaching wherever I could and meeting as many people as possible while always planning the next big thing. This can be exhausting for a new instructor, but I’ve learned that you can’t win them all, and failure is part of the process. You’ll never know what you’re capable of unless you try.
The most impactful lesson I’ve learned on my journey is that no one really knows exactly what they’re doing, but we do it anyway. Embrace the learning process and never be afraid to ask for help.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
My current challenge, as I mentioned before, is finding my footing as a mom of two young babies while managing a small business. I believe that reconnecting with oneself as a mother is essential, as it allows everything else to fall into place naturally. However, finding the patience for this process has been a significant challenge for me.
